I have self-ligating braces (Damon 3's, 23 months so far, almost done) and for the first year, I went every 12 weeks. Since then the appointments have started getting closer together to fine tune things, they went down to 8 weeks apart, then 6 then 4, and my next appointment will only have been two weeks since the last one.

Thanks for starting this post and thanks for the replies. My first adjustment is in 12 weeks and I was thinking that was odd since I don't have self ligating braces. :? But now I am at ease.

Update!

My first adjustment/wire change went great at 10 weeks. My ortho was shocked at how much my teeth had moved. They changed the wire and said to come back in 10 weeks again. I had really crowded crooked teeth at the bottom and they were already straight at 10 weeks. My overlapping front top two teeth are almost straight, just a little ways to go. I went for a regular cleaning with my dentist who had really pushed me to get braces and she was so amazed at how fast my teeth had moved. I have been shocked to since I just turned 44! I recommend braces to anyone who needs them and don't wait until you're in our 40's to do it if you can afford them! Best thing I ever did!

The first time I saw my ortho 6 weeks after. But the doc decided my teeth are moving so fast so he took a weeks off. So This next time I see him it will only be 5 weeks, and he will see me 4-5 weeks after that. so every 5-6 weeks

My previous appointments were 6 weeks apart.

After the latest one on the 9th, he changed my wires to thicker stainless steel ones and told me he'd see me in 8 weeks cos these wires would need that long to do their work.

My first adjustment for my tops will be 9 weeks after bonding, while it will be 6 weeks for lower. I have Damon 3 MX on both the upper and lower jaw, with .014 Copper Ni-Ti wires.

I got Damon braces at the beginning of January and my first adjustment is the first week of April. I also started rubber bands the second day. I guess the longer time before first adjustment is so the crowding of the teeth can be alleviated as best as possible before the ortho schedules more frequent visits to deal with bite issues.

NYG2007 wrote:I go every 8 weeks. I bet a lot of the 8-12 week people most likely have self ligating. They do not require lig changes, etc. so you only really have to go for wire changes and reshapings, etc.
Totally off topic...just glad to see a Giants fan here :-)
