reasons for not being candidate
I was wondering what are reasons why you can't be a candidate for Invisalign?
Also last time i checked i wasn't a candidate but that was a few years ago. Has invisalign changed.

I would suggest returning for a new opinion. I saw an ortho 3 years ago who did not think I would be a candidate for Invisalign. Two years later I visited a different ortho and received a different opinion (actually he presented 3 different options, one of which was Invisalign). I am going to have a first set of refinements this Monday, as the top aligners (19 sets) are complete, and the bottom set (26) will also be re-evaluated. I am totally pleased at this point in the process.
19 upper, 26 lower. Started with trays Feb. 18, 2008

Suggest you try an orthodontist with advanced Invisalign credentials or an advanced degree in orthodontics. There apparently have been a lot of advancements in Invisalign treatment during the past couple of years.
In my case, I did not realize I was a candidate until my ortho told me during my records consultation. He had found on of my teeth had a resorbed tooth root and would be hard to treat with regular braces, so I should go with Invisalign.
My treatment involves intruding my front lower teeth and extruding my lower rear molars as well as correcting some minor crowding. I have 14 upper / 21 lower trays. I was cautioned that I may need to finish in regular braces if results aren't ok with Invisalign.
You may want to get a couple of opinions if you case is complex. You definitely should try again to see what new options are out there!

I saw a number of orthodontists before I found one that would treat me. You can read about the whole saga on my blog http://myhollywoodsmile.blogspot.com/20 ... ntist.html
I got there in the end though- well at least I got my aligners, I have yet to see how it works out!

I went to 6 or 7 orthodontists and they ALL told me I wasn't a candidate for invisilign
They said there were 2 reasons. One was because I needed to have my two top canines pulled down because they were up about a half a tooth too high in my gums and they said invisilign wouldn't be able to pull them down very well. The other reason was because I needed extractions and they said that invisilign isn't good at moving roots. They could have pushed my teeth together to close the extraction gaps but the roots would have still been tipped, kind of like \ / instead of | | and none of the orthos I had consults with would even consider me for invisilign treatment... sigh.
I really had my heart set on it as I wanted something less noticeable and I had been planning for years and years to get braces once I was out on my own and had a job to pay for it. I didn't think my case was very bad at all so I thought I'd be a shoe in for invisilign....
I even tried to get the lingual braces after invisilign wasn't an option, but no one wanted to give me those either. They all said that you can't correct as much with them because the back of the tooth's surface is so small or something blah blah, haha I don't really remember the reasoning for not being able to get linguals but I did go to a bunch of orthos so I figured if they ALL thought regular braces with extractions was the only way to go, then I would have to just give in and take the plunge.
