Hello Iwantniceteeth! Yes I do have a permanent wire retainer encased in cement behind the two front teeth. Both the orthos in my office insist that I will need it for at least two years. It took about a week to get used to it being there but now I really feel like its normal. I'm wearing a removable essix retainer over it at night. Then since I was having alot of pain putting the essix in at night, he advised me to wear my last Invisalign aligner for a few hours during the day. So I have been getting up in the morning taking out the essix, drinking coffee and eating breakfast. Then the whole cleaning routine and put in the Invisalin aligner for about 5 hours (til lunch). This has made putting in the essix much easier! The ortho said some peoples teeth take longer to settle than others. So I think what was happening was the other 5 teeth (not in the wire), they moved to close the gap were trying to go back to their former ways, LOL. He said I will need to wear the essix at night for at least one year and then 3 nights a week forevermore if I want to keep this smile.

Hey, lily, I have a quick question.
How do your old aligners fit over your permanent retainer? is it that small that you didn't have to cut the aligner in the back? and when you got your impressions taken for the essix, did you already have the bonded wire on?
I was thinking about this since I want a permanent wire retainer AND another as well(I am so paranoid!) and I don't know how exactly that works....

Hi Devushka
The wire WAS small until they encased it in cement LOL. They trimmed my old aligner in the back so it would fit over it. And, yes, I did have the wire retainer placed before they did the impressions for the essix. But the essix isnt nearly as form fitting as the Invisalign was. It covers more of the palate and doesnt fit close. There is a gap between it and my palate, I'm still not used to talking with it in. But on the good side.....It feels really strong and I have faith it will keep these pearls --->
in line!

My teeth look just like yours. Gap on top but perfect on the bottom. I just has my impressions done today and have to wait 4 weeks for the answer from Invisalign. Can I ask an approx of how much yours was?

Hi ljhanson77! My entire treatment was $3900. I started out with 12 aligners, then had four more for refinements. This price has included everything including 3 sets of retainers. About 2 months ago I had a problem with my bite not settling properly so he changed me from an essix retainer to a Hawley. After wearing the Hawley for 1 month full time I can happily say all is well! Now I am down to nights only. YAY
Hey myhollywoodsmile, thanks and you're welcome! I know it feels like you will never get done but it will fly by. It is all so worth it when you're done and you look in the mirror. Sometimes when a small setback would hit I felt this would all never end. I'm sure if you read this entire thread you got the idea LOL. But, gosh, now months later I still can't stop smiling.
