I've had my braces since October 1, 2008. I have a few crowns and some old fillings in my mouth (I am 46 years old, these things happen). A couple of weeks ago the orthodontist put some elastics on my braces and said this was to start pull the back teeth and front teeth together to fill in the spaces from the extractions of premolars. The last few days I have been having periodic SHARP pain that I think is from a crowned tooth. It doesn't happen when I'm eating or drinking. Just sitting her a few minutes ago and I was hit with the pain. Doesn't last long and if I can bite down, the pain seems to subside quicker.
Is this from the crown moving? Is this to be expected?
I just had a check up with the dentist also and he didn't mention any problems with that crown or the old filling next to it.
Braces and crowns

Are you sure its from the crown tooth?
I have one crown and once I wear my braces, I have this sharp pain near the area.
I wasnt so sure if it was the crown, on the tooth next to it, or my extraction site.
I went to the doc, he said he did not find anything unsual, site is healing
crown seems fine and he even did and x ray and found nothing. He just gave me pain killer.
After few days it was gone..... and then it came back with a diff tooth and area!
like every other day, atleast one tooth will get sore, pain, sensitive, with or wthout touching.
Both ortho and perio said it was normal and my gum and teeth is trying to adjust with the new things. ( I had root canal, extraction, and braced between small gap of time )
Now I have no pain what soever but once a while atleast one teeth will "act"
up.
(I only got my braces a month ago)

I don't have crowns so I am not sure about that but I do know that a few months after braces I got a really bad tooth ache. Not like the normal brace adjustment pain. So I let it go for about 2-3 days before calling the dentist. They took me right away did xrays, checked the tooth and gums and said nothing was there. To be safe he checked all the teeth in the area as well. He said if it still persisted to come back but actually it never did. Then it started on the other side of the mouth like the same kind of pain for about a week and never has been back. I chalk it up to just the teeth moving and the gums becoming more sensitive to it. But if your really worried I'd just have it check. But since I've had cleanings and they said everything looks fine so that's why when I have pain now I don't get too worried about it.
