Extraction Monday, Braces on Tuesday - sound right??
I am scheduled to have my bottom premolar extracted this Monday. The day after I will be getting my braces... My orthodontist told me the extraction has to be less than 7 days prior to braces but is 1 day too little? I wasnt able to schedule otherwise with my dentist...
Anyone with similar expereince?

I think this comes down to individual preference. I had four extractions and lower ceramics and upper linguals the same day, as I get nervous, I only wanted to get worked up once if that makes sense. All went really well, no regrets, I would do the same again, 24 hours later would be fine for me. I was really pleased I booked to have my hair and nails done and a bit of retail therapy the day after my treatment, it took my mind off things, oh and a good girlie magazine was great for the waiting room. Good Luck
I had my braces on for two weeks, got the wire taken out, had two extractions done, and drove back the next day to have the wire placed back in.
Like rolo said it comes down to individual preference. I am sure you will be fine though. I didn't find extractions painful at all, rather I found the gaps to be kind of awkward feeling and thats about it.

I agree....some is probably ortho preference, the rest what youre comfortable with! I had my braces put on 48 hours after extractions (about a month ago)- but I also had 6 done at once! It was totally fine...and I dont think the pain/discomfort was any more than typical!...Ortho said I could do it then or wait a week- but I too just wanted to 'get it over with'. Worked out really well!
I think you'll be fine!
I was braced a week after my extractions, but I felt fine enough the next day that I could have been braced then. The extractions shouldn't hurt, and the braces will only cause some soreness--but you should already be eating soft foods due to the extractions anyway, so you'll be all set for that! Just take extra care not to affect the extraction sites when cleaning your teeth/brackets!
Good luck!

hi evelinany,
I was supposed to have all 4 premolars extracted on the same day I was braced. However, as extractions took more time than expected extractions were split up in 2 sessions. On the last session I was braced immediately after extraction.
I don't think it makes any difference if you are braced immediately after extraction or wait a few days. However, If your extractions are more painful or difficult than anticipated I think many orthos will choose to postpone the brace event some days in order to spare the patient as much as possible due to the additional discomfort/pain from the dental braces.

It's been 3 hours and I just looked at the hole where the tooth was extracted -- it looks a bit weird... like on the outer side the gum line is way down (the tooth was in an awkward position and had gum recession as a result) - shouldn't the dentist have sewed that up or somethign so the gums were lifted or aligned with the other teeth? Or will they just come togetehr on their own?
I'm afraid that now my orthodontist will move the 2 teeth on the side in that area and they will be below the gumline of other teeth.... ??
Here are pictures taken 3 hrs after extraction:
