Hi Everyone, thanks for the responses, they def help!! I have to say I really think this thing is working. Its only been a week and the pain has faded away. My teeth are just a little numb feeling when I take it out, but other then that it feels ok. I'm getting a little better talking with it in, but I still cant say S or T's haha I think i sound pretty funny. I still havent worn it to work at all.. I've basically been wearing it as soon as I leave work through the night, taking it out to eat and brush of course and then wearing it through the night until I get to work the next day. Hopefully that's enough time! I still have 2 more weeks until my next apt. and I actually want this thing tightened! My Ortho filed a couple of my teeth on my first visit and I sware the little gaps are closed already!! My teeth dont look any straighter yet, but I'm hoping they've moved!
Anyone just getting the retainer my advise is just to take a couple tylenol and try to bare with the pain, it goes away quickly....

My dentist is checking up on me weekly, so I went along for my first week appointment and he did more filing! Hurt a bit because my teeth were tender and he also used a machine to do the filing - the smell of burnt tooth and little stream of tooth dust flying up into the air was a bit disconcerting to say the least!
I'm a little worried that he's taking too much off my teeth. I didn't have big teeth to begin with (except for the front two) and I have a very narrow, nerdy little smile anyway, so I'm worried I'm just going to end up with a tiny gerbil grin when he's finished filing. Ironically enough, I like my smile when I'm wearing the aligner because it makes my smile broader, but when I take it out I really don't like what I see, and I -can- see that the teeth are noticeably smaller and narrower due to the filing. Getting anxious about it, to be honest.
On the plus side, he tightened the expander bit and although it's made my molars ache a little, it's now flush against my teeth and the roof my mouth and speaking is much easier. The endless saliva production seems to also be lessening, thank god!
I really hope all this is worth it come June. Not hoping for perfect teeth or anything, just an improvement and some confidence in my smile. I really hope I don't end up regretting the change!

Hi to anyone who comes back to read this. Ive been looking at bits and pieces on the internet about the inman aligner and the invisalign types of teeth correction. Basically I cant find any pictures of any one with teeth like mine, my front two teeth are set back from the ones next to them and the ones next to them stick out forwards and over my front two teeth. Its getting to the point now where I almost have to snarl at things like apples just so I can get my lips back far enough not to bite them too!! I know whats caused it, again its those bloody wisdom teeth, remind me what the point of them is again!! I did see an orthodontist years ago when I was a teenager who explanined the problem to me, but he wanted to take out four teeth and give me tracks for a minimum of two years. At the time I was 17 and never had and still never have had any dental work done at all only regular check ups and this thought horrified me and to be honest still does but Im now 29 and have had three babies all naturally and think I could probably take on having a few teeth out but Iam even more mortified at the thought of tracks. All that pulling and rubbing and tightening. I saw my two younger sisters go through it and dont think the result is all that great.
Now you see, my grandad recently died and left me a small amount of money and so Im thinking of looking at getting my teeth straightened privately, ( because my dentist still is trying to send me for tracks!! ) and I am really hoping that I might be able to get it done with the inman aligner as the rest of my teeth are fine, just the front four. I dont want an L.A smile, just a straighter one! I know the best thing to do would be to go for a consultation and I will as soon as my grandads money comes through, there are quite a few speacialists near me so I will be able to choose the best one for what I want and can hopefully get. I just thought in the mean time if anyone can offer advice that can only be a good thing and you guys all seem very helpfull, thats if you come back of course, haha! Thanks.

Hi Vicky! If you're interested in finding out before a personal consultation whether you may be suitable for Inman, then you could go to the forums on the Inman Aligner site and post a pic for the dentists there to look at. If you'd prefer to email, Tif Qureshi is an expert in the field and he posted his email on the Inman forums as dentalelegance@btinternet.com. I sent him a few photos of my teeth before I went for a consultation and he gave me a cautious thumbs up for treatment.

Being a total wuss, I fled the surgery and never returned! My dentist who's treating me with Inman has never even suggested extractions, and I do think that things have changed since we were kids (I'm 27 now) and the emphasis is very much on preservation of healthy teeth and conservative practice where possible.
I do need to have tooth filing (IPR) to make some room for my front teeth to come back, but it's really not so bad - not painful at all, just a bit forceful the first time it's done because the little file has to be nudged between tightly packed teeth. And, touch wood, I haven't suffered from any added sensitivity because of it.
I'd say if you're in a position to do it, then go for it! I've had my Inman on for two weeks now and I think there's a difference already. I should post some pics and see what my fellow Inmaners think. But I'm already wishing I'd had the guts to do this ages ago. But hey, the Inman's a recent development, so maybe you and I have timed our treatments quite well.
Anyway, good luck with your consultation - I hope you're suitable for Inman.

I was just reading through the posts and I think it would really good if we could get some before and afters up here or somewhere for people to see. I know when I started thinking about having this done I couldnt find much info on the Aligners and that is how I found this message board. It would be really great to see how everyone else is getting on!
Also one thing I wanted it do was document my progress with the aligner in blog form. I never got around to it but I wondered if anyone else had done one?

I'm a protrusive case too, I think mine was a 9-10mm overjet... I'm actually seeing Tif at Dental Elegance and i think he is the best dentist i have ever had. Very calming and patient, i would defo recommend speaking with him.
I started treatment on 20th November and all i can say is wow at the progress to date!
I go this Thursday for my check up, will report back in then.

Good luck with it. I was surprised at how big it was when I got it first but you get used to it quickly.
Well I have it!
And it is so easy to put in and take out. It doesn't feel very tight, but my dentist says it is fine.
The only problem I am having with it is that it seems to slide up my teeth at the front rather than sitting where it should.
Has anyone else had this problem, I feel like I need to keep pushing it down. My dentist says he has one patient whom he has put a bit of filling on their teeth to keep it in place, but I don't want that!
Of course the speech is a joke, and I won't be wearing it at work all the time, but so far so good!
Also the filing - no big deal AT ALL. Nothing to worry about. It was almost like someone putting a nail file between my teeth and gently sawing. Wouldn't let it put anyone off!
I will post updates soon

So here is my first update.
It has starting hurting!!! At first I couldn't really feel the pressure, but taking it out and putting it back in is pretty sore. Brushing my teeth I can feel how sensitive and sore they are.
Does this diminish? If so in how long????
At least it shows it is working, of which I am very glad
Also, am I OK to keep it in whilst drinking fizzy drinks? I am guessing I should take it out to drink tea, as it is says to avoid heat?
For now I am wearing it at work, but there are only 3 others who work with me, so that's not an issue, and I will take it out for meetings etc. I did see someone in the lift this morning, which was bizarre when I was trying to say hello etc.
One more thing. Has anyone had/thinking of having composite bonding upon completion? The tooth I am trying to move is more worn than the one next to it, and I am conscious that even when straight it will look awful!

Also, i now need to have the inner bow fitted (something i have not been wearing up until now). Unfortunately my inner bow can't be found, so as an interim i need to have a clear made so my inman can be sent off for another bow to be made and to be adjusted. My dentist said he would see how i got on with the clear and if that goes well he may finish me on the clears... I have also had those annoying blobs removed from my teeth so all in all, today has been good news.

Thanks Buzz, started on 2nd September, swapped to clears in December and am now just reducing the time I wear my clear. Am up to 10 hours without it during the day and not too painful when I put it back in at night which I assume indicates that nothing is moving. My dentist says that when I next see him - May, we can see whether I can just wear the clear at night as a retainer or whether it will be best to have a wire along the back of the teeth
The gum between my front teeth is also growing down which means that if I do have a wire it won't show through.
Am really pleased and more confident, went away at the weekend and looking at the photos it really makes a difference.
Was thinking of having my bottoms done too but to be honest, when smiling normally and not like a Cheshire Cat for these dentist photos they really don't show so can't justify the cost. Thinking of whitening though..........................
