I had my first consultation today. I did not think my mouth was that complex as I just wanted my front teeth pushed back, however I have been told that I am on the upper scale of complicated othodontics!! My treatment would involve removing two upper teeth (probably cost around £200-£300 per extraction and possibly one I have only just paid £650 to have root filled!) then having two jaw anchors/implants at £500 each to pull the teeth back and stop the back teeth moving forward. To have upper and lower linguals it would cost £2500 to get the treatment started then around £350 a month for 18 months. The letter of treatment, moulds and xrays would cost me £140. Totalling around 10.5K! There is no way I can afford this. Lingual/ceramic combo would be about 1.5K less but still way too expensive. I am really adverse to having visible top braces but even the basics would cost me around £4.5K (not including the anchors and extractions). Does anyone know if this is a bit expensive as it seems stupid money (I could pay off my student loan or have a deposit for a house!). I had a removable appliance when I was around 15 (which worked well - but my orthodontist decided he wanted to give me train tracks after 1.5 years of treatment as my teeth moved when he took the brace away for a month - vanity prevailed as I was starting college so left without a retainer as he would no longer treat me) and did not have to have any extractions or complicated treatments.
I now do not know what to do - nobody really notices my teeth apart from me but I would love to get them sorted but I don't want to bankrupt myself in the process. Can anyone else give guides to what price they have paid so I can see if it is worth getting quotes from elsewhere?

You sound in a simlar position to me. I don't have to have any extractions or anything, but am going with upper iBraces (Incognito) and lower ceramics, as there was no way I was gonna get visible braces on the uppers.
I was quoted £6k for Upper incognito/lower ceramic, with a deposit of £2k it works out at £222 per month for 18 months.
At first I thought I could never afford it, but now I've saved the £2k so am going ahead with it. I think it's down to how unhappy you are with your teeth. Like you nobody ever comments or mentions my teeth, but to me they are horrible. I wore braces when I was a teenager, but my teeth shifted back to their original position. Now I HATE having my picture taken because of them, hate smiling widely when I'm close to people etc.. even my girlfriend!
Your price for linguals sounds about right.. I was quoted £8k for upper and lower linguals, I worked out you were quoted £8800 total? Are you in London? This could account for the price difference.
As for the extraction price I have no idea, you could probably find on here or google what other orthos are charging.
Hope I helped some, and good luck!

No I am from Portsmouth (but the Orthodontist is in Fareham) so its not like I am visiting someone in harley St! I have made an appointment with a more local orthodontist today for £50 - they have managed to get me in tonight so I will see what they say. they don't do lingual ones there but now I am going to see if I am a candidate for the damon braces as they seem to be less likely to need extractions. They have said they do the clear variety (for around £2000) which although I REALLY don't want to have visible braces I may just do it anyway. If I have to have teeth extracted I will definitely not go ahead. My dentist is private, although (VERY) expensive I have had quite bad problems caused by NHS dentists (including a total of around 5/6 attempts on a root canal which failed everytime - the private one did it once!). I guess I will have to see what they say tonight - at least their prices seem more reasonable
