How many have or dont have Molar bands???

I have 4 molar bands.. 2 top, 2 bottom.

People get bands due to their fillings, crowns, or onlays.

If you don't have these... you won't have bands.

Now it stands at 17 with Molar bands & 11 without,

Unfortunately, this can't be the case because I'm getting 2 bands - 1 on each side on the lower - and I have zero cavities, zero fillings, zero crowns, zero anything. My ortho mentioned she was doing this because I'd be getting elastics. My guess (after a lot of searching around) is that molar bands will help give the elastics better anchorage than just a regular bracket, however, that's not going to stop me from asking the ortho if we can TRY this without the molar bands. I'm really, really freaking out about the oral hygiene (and pain) aspects of molar bands. Additionally, I've heard from many that some orthos NEVER use the molar bands, while others do...so it can't be NECESSITY, but rather preference?

I have one molar band. my original ortho hated molar bands.
