Getting braces on Thursday, spacers already in!

#1 Post by DenaClements »

Hello, new here.

I just turned 30, and decided to take the plunge. My teeth aren't really bad, but I have a minor crossbite that has started giving me problems. They told me I would only be in braces for 12-15 months. I am really excited about getting them, but I am not excited about these spacers!!!

I got my them put in this past Thursday, and oh my gosh they are just about to drive me crazy. It wouldn't be so bad if they weren't sticking out above my teeth. I hate this "bouncy" feeling. It is wearing me out!!! Augh! I can not wait until Thursday, it can't get here soon enough.

I guess where the space has gotten bigger one of the spacers moves, and it is hitting my gums. I would so love to pull it out, but I know I can't.

I am only getting the top set put on Thursday. I won't get the bottoms until a little later.

Congrats on your decision. And 12 months is not that long at all - excellent!

Welcome! I haven't had to go through spacers but seems to be a running theme of how annoying they are so I hope Thursday comes fast for you! I'm sure it will feel good to get those out :)

My treatment time is about the same as yours. This month was my 1 year with braces mark and my ortho says I just have a couple months left. (I was actually supposed to be getting them off right around now according to my original estimate but my ortho has extended it.)

Look forward to hearing how your brace day goes!

They definelty don't sound very fun, that is for sure. Best of Luck with getting your braces on Thursday!! I have had my braces on for a little more then a year now! If all goes well and continues to go as planned, I should have them off by november *crosses fingers!

Thanks everyone. I will have to remember the lip balm and restroom thing. Still going crazy, but I am less than 2 days away from getting these spacers out!

Well, I got the top ones on today. It is not nearly as bad as I thought.

They told me I probably wouldn't get the bottoms for a few months. I have a small overbite, so they want to get my top teeth into position.

The bad news is that I had to get 2 spacers put in on the bottom again! The one that was bothering me so much was not doing its job, which is probably why it was bothering me. They weren't able to put the bracket on that side today, it was a bottom anyway.

Overall, I am in zero pain. They feel really weird, and it is very odd to eat anything. I would normally snack throughout the day at work, but it is to much trouble. You know, having to go brush afterward because I DO NOT want food sticking to my braces. haha. So I might just lose a little bit of weight through this whole process.

Happy Half B day to you!!

Glad to hear you at least got the top ones on today but sorry to hear you had to get 2 spacers put back in that were bothering you! That is great that you are in zero pain, probably helps that you've had the spacers before hand.
