Hi everyone
This is my first post on my journey to straight teeth! I have decided to go ahead with orthodontic treatment and the first step was having all 4 wisdom teeth removed. The ortho felt that this was necessary because they caused trouble during treatment and needed extraction I wouldnt be able to wear my invisalign trays for a few weeks while everything healed up.
SO now my wisdom teeth are out and my question is how long do I have to wait before I can get my impressions done? My wisdom teeth came out on april 6 ( 16 days so far). The extraction sites dont hurt at all, but there are still open holes with bone showing through.
I am really excited to get started, but a bit worried that it might be bad if the 'impression stuff' gets in my holes where the teeth were.
My oral surgeons office said the holes take 4-6 weeks to close up btw.
Anyone have any thoughs/experiences on this? My oral surgeon wasnt sure.
Thanks everyone
how long after

First of all - congratulations for starting your orthodontic treatment!
I also had two teeth removed before starting Invisalign (the fifth one on each side of my upper jaw). It took approx. a month (if I recall it correctly) until both holes were closed and my gum felt ok again. After that my ortho was on holidays, so I had to wait some more time for my appointment to get impressions done - they did it after my gum was completly closed, so nothing could get into the hole (it didn't look closed when I checked it in the mirror by the way, but obviously the healing starts from the inside). During the time the wounds were healing I went there every week for a quick check to ensure that there is no infection on it's way.
But I guess it also makes a difference how fast you heal in general and if your wound was stiched up!

I had my impressions taken before I got all my wisdom teeth removed. They just removed the wisdom teeth on the computer and clincheck at Invisialign and make the aligners as if the wisdom teeth aren't there. I got my first aligners about 3 weeks after my wisdom teeth were removed. But this doesn't help you much since you already got them out.
I'd guess that when you are no longer susceptible to getting dry socket that you'd be able to get impressions. That would be a week after having the teeth removed. But you should probably ask you oral surgeon that took them out.
* My wisdom teeth were through the gums already so I didn't need surgery.
