My braces Odyssey

#1 Post by Maria83 »

Hi all!

I am new to braces, had them fitted yesterday using Mystique. It has been awful. I am 25 years old, female and apart from my frustrated vanity which I try to keep under control, I am in a great discomfort and can not chew anything. My jaws could not fit properly after the braces installation and my ortho applied some kind of layer in order for them to touch. Had anyone else had that? Will I be able to eat properly after I few days? The food obstacle is important enough to me to ask them to remove braces, I can not tolerate not eating properly for 15 months :(

I would also like to ask, have your orthos been sincere regarding the treatment timeframe? I am getting married in September 2010 and I really hope that I will have my treatment completed, as per the timeframe I was advised.

I would really appreaciate any word of advice
:)

Hi Maria83,
Welcome & well done for getting braced, you have already have taken the biggest step of your braces.

Hang in there for a while, it does get easier as time passes, I can only talk from my experience, in a while you will even start to forget you have them, as for eating, I eat anything I like at the moment, hopefully it will be the same for you.

My Ortho always gives a longer timeframe than what she expects the treatment to take, for me I would have been finished six months before the original treatment timeframe.
Hope this helps
Cheers

Thank you for your kind words.

For the time being it is very bad, each motion I make with my mount results in my gums being scratched by the metal clips. Then again, I suppose everybody here has gone through these. It is a real comfort knowing that it will get better :)

Sorry to hear about your discomfort. I promise it DOES get better. I'm getting ready to have my first adjustment on May 4th and I'm dreading the soreness again. But at least take comfort in knowing....pain means movement!!!
