Ceramic Braces Any Advice??????
Hi everyone, well I'm 23 years old and i am finally getting braces put on on may 7th 2009. I decided to get the ceramic braces because i would like them to be a little discreet. I have a major overbite because when i was younger i use to suck two of my fingers, and my teeth grew in weird so i have gaps in my upper teeths. I am a very social person who love to laugh and i am just tired of putting my hands over my mouth when i laugh because my teeth are so messed up. So my journey begins in about one month, so any advice or tips will be well apperciated.
Thank You.
Thank You.

Hi Braceface23,
I have ceramics on my upper arch and have been very happy with them. I've had them for 15 months and have had no problems with them what-so-ever. As far as staining, they don't, it's only the ligatures or powerchains that stain. I had wire ties from the beginning and have had powerchains for the last 9 months. I did try silver which I didn't like and then I've had clear for the rest of the time. I'm a coffee drinker so I go inbetween appointments to have them changed.
Check out my www below.
Good luck with your decision!

I have self-ligating ceramics (In-Ovation C) and staining is not an issue since rubberbands aren't involved at all. I don't feel that they are very noticeable, and this is coming from someone who was afraid of what they would look like. I'm 23 and was worried about embarking on getting braced now, but it's been about a month and it's really not that bad. You'll be glad you did it. Look into In-Ovation C's! The 3M Clarity SL's don't look too bad either, but I've never seen them on anyone.

I would totally get the ceramics. I have been in In-ovation C for 2 weeks and recommend them. Although they are bulkier than the metal (I have In-ovation metal on the lowers), they are much less obvious and haven't hurt me too much. The ceramics haven't stained yet but I have been so careful to drink all (including hot) beverages through a straw, but I might stop now that you guys are saying they never stain!
I thought ceramics were great. The brackets themselves don't seem to stain, only the elastic ligatures when used. Some months I had them and they went a bit yellow, but doesn't show much. Other months when they were tightened harder he used wire ligatures which you can do anything to.
The only downside that I can see is the ceramic brackets seem to be a little bigger than metal, and mine required a fair bit of dental wax at first as the inside of my mouth was so raw. I have a feeling metal ones are a bit lower profile within the mouth, but someone else can correct me as I'm no expert.
On the plus side, I was terrified of getting them, then no one noticed afterwards!! Good luck, you'll be fine.

Yay. braces in 2 days.
I'm a smoker so i got for "pearl" ligs vs clear with my ceramic braces, and i have fun with the bottom ones with colors.
I found the pearl seems to last a LIL bit longer with staining. Whenever the assistant takes them off though dang do they look brown/yellow. Ugh. But the actual bracket is still nice and clean and stain free and i almost feel like my teeth look whiter with braces than before...except when my ligs get really badly stained. haha.

I to have ceramic braces. they are just on the top teeth though. I have metal braces on the bottom. I really enjoy my ceramic braces because they are hardly noticeable unless you look really close. They don't look horribly bad either. I had a problem with bad staining earlier on in my treatment but that wasn't because of eating or drinking anything, it was due to the mouthwash i was using. Since i've stopped using this particular mouthwash, i've had very little staining. I to am a coffee and tea drinker and i try to limit myself to one or 2 cups a day. Best of luck and yes dental wax will probably be your friend for the first little while until the inside of your mouth toughens up

Hi Braceface 23,
I am a 34 year-old wife and professional with ceramic braces. They are the best. Nobody can see them unless they are really staring at your mouth. They are invisible in pictures. I've worn braces for almost two months and some of my co-workers still haven't noticed.
Depending on what color ligatures you have, you need to be careful of what you eat and drink. If you smoke or are a coffee drinker, I highly recommend staying away from the clear/white elastics.
You won't be disappointed with the ceramic braces. Hope you had good luck with your banding today!
Please keep us posted!!!

Hi Sisi,
I'm not sure what type of ceramics I have. Maybe I should ask next time I go. I have ceramics on the top and bottom.
The white/clear ligs are my color of choice. I don't drink coffee or smoke, so they work out well for me. However, the color makes me more aware of what I eat and drink.
Hope I answered your questions!!
Thanks!
