Hey rubberbandshurt! Thanks for posting :) I am only 3 weeks away from getting my braces off now so yes very close hehe. I don't think I'm taking any updated pics from this adjustment since my last pics were from 2 weeks ago and I haven't had much change since then. I will take some of me in the braces before I get them off and then more after, of course!

B - wow that's so cool that we are getting them off on the same day now! I was gonna get them off on June 11 but yea they moved up my deband date to June 2 :) I should be just arriving to work around the time you are getting yours off (6:30am PST) so I will be sending well wishes your way! For some reason, I thought you were getting yours off this month but June 2 is just barely June hehe. We will have to have a virtual toast that day! :-88

I was supposed to get them off today, but I called my ortho last Monday because my TMJ was acting up and my bite felt off, and I had a space open up. I went in last Thursday and he made some adjustments and rescheduled my removal. So June 2nd it is!

Thanks everyone! :) Only 2 weeks from tomorrow!!

I'm really excited, but my right top lateral is a little crooked and it's causing the tooth to bump into my extra long lower canine. It's really uncomfortable. I asked my ortho last week and he pretty much said there was nothing he could do and that he would just polish some of my enamel off once the braces come off and hopefully it wont hit that bottom tooth anymore. But - I've been trying and trying but my slant is never going to fully go away unless that tooth stops hitting the lower one and only THEN can that tooth and its neighbors finally be brought down with the elastics just like the much better behaving left side of my mouth. I called and scheduled an appointment for this Thursday which is the next available time the ortho is in.

I know he said there's nothing that can be done, but I distinctly see that the loop in my archwire is very crooked on that side and I am hoping a wire change will at least give me SOME improvement. My debanding is so close that I don't know how much difference can be made in a short time but it just needs to move a tiny bit. It's really bothering me so I figured, I will at least give it a shot with going to see my ortho and if he still says he can't do anything then maybe he could polish off the enamel on Thursday instead of my debrace day so I can at least get the elastics to work before the braces come off and fix this darn slant!

Wish me luck :)

Hi Andromeda,

'The Devil is in the details' as the saying goes. I'm curious to see what my own Devil is going to be.....
But I hope for you that your tooth contact issue and slant will be sorted out so that you can finish AND be happy with the result.

If you still have an issue, I would call in a see if he can look at you, you have nothing to loose. I'm going in for a chain change on Thursday and I'm sure that my ortho will take a peek, since I've expressed issues. He's been awesome!

Hi Andromeda,

I just caught up on your story and I really hope that tooth moves for you!!! I know it's a short time until your debanding date, but ya know how quickly teeth can move when they feel like it. I admire you for being proactive with your ortho... even if they are nice people it can still be hard to speak up about your expectations.

Either way, I think your teeth look great and I hope you are happy with the final result!

I have laterals that look a lot like yours and my ortho mentioned I could get veneers or bonding if I wanted. At first I thought I wanted the bonding, but after thinking about it I'm leaning towards leaving them alone. :)

Hi allisun - thanks for the well wishes and the nice compliments :) I hope my ortho can do something about my lateral as well; I can't stand it bumping into my lower tooth and it's throwing my whole bite off, just ONE little tooth.... ugh, haha. I know what you mean about the bonding on the laterals - my ortho recommended it for me but I'm thinking I will probably leave them alone like you.

I go in today to see the ortho and I hope he doesn't get frustrated with me for coming in again. My last adjustment was supposed to be my last one before debanding and I already brought this issue up to him and he said he couldnt do anything so yea I'm a little worried he is going to get frustrated with me "wasting" his time. He has shown visible frustration with my questions in the past... :( But I REALLY think something can be done and I even have 3 ideas to give him so I'm hoping that will sway him to my side, haha.

I'm actually really excited also, because I have always felt I had a pretty gummy smile and small teeth and my orthodontic treatment hasn't helped that it at all. I wanted to get a gingivectomy / gum contouring done to remove some of the excess gum tissue and also make my teeth look a little bigger but from looking online, it would probably be around $2000 for me. That's just a guesstimate since I haven't seen a perio yet, but I basically had decided not to bother since I knew I couldn't afford that. WELL - so I was just looking at my health insurance and it actually covers 80% of the gingivectomy!! I assumed it didn't cover it since it's for cosmetic reasons but it actually says the word gingivectomy - 80% covered!! I am so excited because I can definitely afford that :) I am going to schedule a consult for it sometime after the braces come off and see what they have to say. I'm also going to get the crest whitestrips and do some whitening when the braces come off. I am excited to see what they look like brace-free but also am now thinking even further ahead to no braces, whiter teeth, and a less gummy smile. I don't know there is a waiting time to get a gingivectomy after braces since my teeth will still be not settled yet right after the braces come off so not sure when that would be able to be scheduled, but I'll keep everyone updated!

I'm sure I will post again probably tonight after I get home from the orthodontist and let you all know what he has to say about my lateral and hopefully he will make some sort of adjustment for me.

So I went to the ortho today about the top lateral that was hitting my lower canine and HE FIXED IT! Yay :) He said that to me it probably feels like it was really hitting against there but really it was just barely touching. He kept putting that carbon paper in my mouth and telling me to bite so he could see where it was hitting and then he took a sander/drill type thing and removed some of my enamel. Now it's not touching anymore and I started wearing my elastics again about an hour ago. I am hoping the elastics can do their job now that that tooth isn't getting in the way. Hopefully the elastics can pull the teeth on my right side together to match the left and maybe the slant will finally be gone :) Only 12 days left!

Woohoo, congrats... now let's hope those elastics do their job!

That is fabulous! You have some generous insurance. :)
