Finally Braced!

#1 Post by lwyrwood »

Well, it happened. I got braced today. Despite all of my anxiety, it was surprisingly uneventful. :o The worst part was the tongue holder! Hated it. Everything else was easy as pie. I was in and out in just under an hour! They applied my braces using some kind of tray that applied all of the uppers and then all of the lowers at the same time. I thought they would be applied one by one. What a nice surprise!! Didn't get bite turbos or buildups. Whoo-hoo.

The bad part... I found out I'm getting spacers at my next appt. Ugh. And then a week later I'm getting molar bands. I'm trying not focus on that though cause I've only read horror stories about the spacers!

I left my appt asking myself what have I done to myself. I am not in any pain. My teeth are little sensitive but only when I touch my front top teeth to the bottoms. I even went in to my client's office for a couple of hours after! Just came home and was totally craving In-n-Out! Don't know why. So, I figured I'd risk it and got some fries. Yummy! I ate them with no problem. I guess cause my molars are not braced yet.

Well, sorry so long. Thanks for all the encouraging words. I'm gonna try to figure how to post a couple of my first day pics!

My biggest problem and what motivated me to get braced is my upper right canine that is set back (stubborn primary tooth didn't want to make way). I also have a pretty nice overbite but I never cared about that... Btw, I could have sworn I felt one of my teeth move earlier!!!! Is that even possible??? :?

Blindboarder - Thanks! The fries were excellent. I don't think they ever tasted so good. Unfortunately, my menu options have dwindled. I had pudding and mac-n-cheese for dinner. :?

Re: the pain. Still none! I almost feel like its going to pop up out of nowhere. But so far so good. :D

Braceface - Thanks. Thats awesome that you are almost done. I can't wait to be where you are.

congrats on the braces... woo hoooo
Tongue-spreader? that sounds ickk... I was luck y not to have that experience when i had my ceramics installed 5 days ago... had a wonderful 'lip-spreader' though.. not very appealing. I had my bracket done one at a time and was done in less than an hour too.... My teeth have been sore from day 2 but do feel alot better toaddy.. hurrah!

Congratulations! Welcome to the braces club. Your photos are nice - did you get some cute little metal damons? I have those on my lower jaw.

I felt that same sense of anti-climax after I got mine... so that's it? After the first couple of weeks you don't notice the time flying past.

glad to hear the fries were good, and sorry about the dwindling foo choices:( but i promise it will get better, just hang in there. wobbly teeth? ya that perfectly normal no worries there. glad to hear your not in a lot of pain. your pretty lucky. I was in quite a bit of pain for the first few weeks but it did get better over those two weeks although in the beginning i didn't think it would ever get better. But it did!

I'm doing ok... just ok. The first couple of days seemed too good to be true and they were. Since day 3 I have been going through wax like there's no tomorrow. My braces all of a sudden started poking different areas of my mouth and felt rough instead of smooth. :? However, I haven't really been in pain. Mostly just a consistent feeling of being uncomfortable.

Still can't bite down with my front teeth. They are incredibly sensitive (at one point I had to stop using my sonicare tooth brush). I now use it once a day with only gentle pressure. Also, my teeth still feel wobbly!

Honestly, I can't imagine having these things on my teeth for the next 18 months. I'm holding onto the hope (from other's posts) that the day will come when I wont even notice that they are there. Until then...
