Have been reading your story and can sooooooooo relate to this:
"Oh my god, I look like the biggest dork in the world!"
I thought a lot about how they might look and feel in my mouth but I was totally wrong. For some reason I pictured braces in a mouth full of straight teeth (like Mr. Cruise in my avatar there) but it doesn't quite look the same on crooked teeth lol.
The funny thing is that I got to my car, looked at my reflection in the mirror, and felt a slight sense of regret.
I had mine put on Thursday - I refused to look in the mirror for about 5 minutes. I thought I had come to terms with it beforehand, but obviously I wasn't
Everyone says I look cute, but I feel like Ugly Betty. I say that because I also have to wear glasses. So instead of Brace Face, I feel like Metal Face.
Butttttttt having said that, I am trying to keep a positive attitude. Seeing your movements and others over a small timeframe, has got me excited of what to expect in the months to come.
just when i was getting into the lessons learned... they stopped lol. a lesson I'VE learned is that the friendliest ortho assistant isn't necessarily the most painless. glad to see your teeth are movin so well.
Your teeth look amazing, Tommm! They've certainly "done their job", lining up! You must so happy to have such a great result so early in your treatment!
Thanks for your support everyone!! Blake, my bite is still way off (open and a bit underjet) so I think that's going to be the primary battle over the rest of my braces sentence. Hopefully they'll be able to fix it since I'm refusing to get surgey!
I can't believe it's been 4 months already! My initial excitement and feelings of novelty for my braces have completely waned and now I can't wait to get these things off my teeth! I'm still really happy that I got them though. Just wish I could fast forward the clock a bit lol.
So the wisdom teeth removal went well. It wasn't even as bad as other people made it out to be. My teeth are getting pretty straight now so I'm guessing that my next adjustment will mark the elastics/bite phase of the treatment. We'll see. The front view of the teeth is my bite at the moment. It's a pretty bad open bite and my teeth are as close as I can get them in the pics. Crazy stuff! I'm really curious as to what my ortho can do to this crazy bite without surgery.
Anyways, thanks always for your support!! Our journey to straight teeth continues on and it's so great to have a group of people to travel with! Keep smiling everyone!
I've noticed that eating things have become much easier lately and I can pretty much eat anything semi soft now. It's so nice to finally be able to bite into a burrito or a burger instead of having to cut it up.
Anyways, the adjustment went well. Got some thicker wires and I started with elastics! They don't feel as strange as I expected and it actually felt weird not having them on when I just had lunch. Go figure. There's one thing I can't figure out though. Is it possible to yawn while wearing elastics??
It's almost my 5 month braceversary so I'll put up a full set of pics then. A quick snap of my new rubber bands for now. Cheers!
Your teeth are looking grrrrrrrreat! I finally got that "spider-looking" expander out yesterday. Along with that came 6 new upper brackets. I hope to be seeing more movement up there soon! My teeth sure are SORE as heck today!
Great news! My ortho said that the elastics are working a miracle and that I won't need to extract any teeth to align my bite. I was so happy to hear that!! Now I got some new box elastics on top of the original ones (didn't catch the type) so I'm hoping that my bite will come into line from here. It's funny how I can finally "see" how my teeth are supposed to fit together now that my teeth are straighter and the bite is getting aligned. My teeth hurt like crazy the first night with my original set of elastics so I'm hoping that the new box ones won't be like that. (keeping my fingers crossed). Thanks everyone for your support!!
Here's a sad blurry pic but it shows the hardcore elastics.
