I am now IA clear - I was back at the dentist on thursday and now have the thin wire retainer fixed to the front six teeth, its amazing, you can't really feel it at all unless you run your tongue along the back of it and when you are brushing your teeth.
I have sooo much more confidence now when I speak to people, I can speak openly and without trying to cover up my mouth and everyone is noticing that I smile alot more now
With regard to people previously questioning how quickly the teeth "drift back" - they do drift back remarkably quickly. I had mine out for a wedding, so all in all it was out for about seven hours and low and behold my horrible gap was back, but putting it back in when I got home my teeth were back "fixed" the next morning. The thin wire has pushed them together even more and they look fantastic. If I can figure out how to get photos on this, I'll post them - but for everyone that still has it - stick with it, you're life will change FOREVER!!!!
Hi everyone! I was at the dentist yesterday and after wearing Inman in my upper teeth for 7 weeks I had a bonded wire fitted to my front four teeth. I'm still very surprised how fast it all happened.
I also got the IA fitted to my lower teeth and I'm in so much pain right now!! I had happily forgotten how much it hurts in the beginning. Especially putting it in is pure agony so I think I'll take it out only when it's absolutely necessary. This works as a diet as well I actually lost 2kg when wearing the IA in my upper teeth.
I had also thought that the IA in lower teeth will not affect your speech as much as in upper teeth but I was wrong. The lisping is back.. yay. Luckily I'm on holiday now for the next three weeks so at least I have some time to practise my speech before going to work.
hello, newbie here, this forum has been really really helpful, so I'd like to start by saying thanks so much to everyone who has been posting, asking, and answering. This seems like such a new process, it's hard to find any online info that is non-biased. I've even passed the link to this site on to my dentist.
I am right at the start of my Inman journey, I get my moulds (and filing!) done on Thursday, and will be fitted later in August. I only have 1 wonky tooth to get straightened, so hopefully it won't take too long or be too hideous. I'm not great when it comes to matters of the teeth....
I'll post more on Thursday. Already looking forward to the speech impediment, seeing as I work in a job where I have to speak to people on the phone all day and my 1st name has 2 s's in it...
I'm seeking Inman Aligner treatment also, and I was wondering; is the Inman Aligner limited only to the front 4 incisors? Or can the two canine teeth also be treated with the Inman Aligner? Thanks in advance (asking in case anyone had their canine teeth treated with the inman aligner)

I was fitted with my Inman Aligner 4 days ago. I hve an overlap on my top two front teeth and one of the teeth is rotated slightly. Although my brace is tight, I can move the bar across the front of my teeth up and down with my finger. I was just wondering should the front bar rest closer to the top of the front teeth, in the middle, or closer to the lower part of the teeth - to ensure maximum efficiency. Any advice would be great, thanks.
This is one of the questions I present everytime I go to the dentist!
He usually tells me that wherever it is sitting it is usually fine, but I would try and rest it where most of the overlap is. I have found that over time as my teeth have moved the bar has got lower as the teeth have straightened out. To start with I don't think it will make much difference, as I was convinced I had it too high to start with but once you start seeing movement you'll see that it isn't as important as you might think!
there is a HUGE gap in my front teeth. dentist is pleased. moving onto the inman aligner next week. am excited and nervous at same time. my speech is normal now with the expander brace, so am not looking forward to going back to being completely incoherent again, but... am looking forward to getting those straight teeth! yeah!
I'm new to all this and was looking for some advice.
I had an expander fitted last night and I'm really struggling with the speach. My job involves me talking on the phone and people are really struggling to tell what I am saying so I'm removing the expander when on the phone. Does anyone know if this will weaken or damage the expander and does the speach get any better.
I'll have had the expander in for about 12 weeks by the time I get the IA. when i first wore it, it was pretty bad. i couldn't say much at all, i was so hard to understand. i also took it out for about 7 hours a day, at least, as I had to talk properly in my work. once my teeth started to move and the expander fitted better, suddenly my speech got dramatically better and I could wear it all day long. it will never be perfect but hardly anybody notices I have it in. its worth the perseverance! good luck x
i'm in ireland also, and have decided to take the plunge and get the inman treatment... this forum has been great in helping me decide!! so thanks everyone for that
my story isn't much of a read but basically my wisdom teeth came down during my mid to late teens and threw my front teeth outta line (i only realised that this is why my teeth went crooked recently!)...
i've been considering braces for years but given my only real issue are my front teeth i could never justify it - i only found out about the inman about a month ago! went for a consultation and now i have my first appointment (for the impressions to be taken etc) in less than 2 weeks... exciting times!
the dentist says i'm a "moderate to severe" inman case, so the treatment should take approx. 10-12 weeks - there was no mention of expanding, just shaving - but once i get to listen to good tunes while that's going on i don't mind
i was wondering how the aligner handles hot and cold drinks? has anyone suffered any sensitivity issues as a result of it??

I am a previous poster on the IA- finished the treatment last year and opted for the clear retainer to wear at night.....HOWEVER this morning, I dont know what happened because I am always so gentle with it but as I was taking it off, it cracked! Its still in one piece but I am wondering how ineffective it would be with a crack in it?! I am so annoyed and worried- does anyone know how much a replacement would cost me?! Or even if I decided to go for the wire at the back of the teeth- how much that would cost?
