hope this was clear, it was _my feeling for _myself
by the way, i didn't bothered about what others would have chosen and i think it helped to make a free decision, free decision seems important to me
I have clear on top and metal on bottom. I would have gone for clear all over, but my orthodontist recommended metal on bottom. The clear on top was worth the extra $200 for me.
I have all clear and I like them. The ligs do stain which is annoying but overall I'm happy that I went with them because they are so much less noticable. They didn't cost me any more than metal and I'm totally used to them after nearly 6 months so they are fine comfort wise.
It's up to you
Wow - It cost me an extra $900 for clear just on the top! I get them on in 5 weeks so we'll see if it was worth it. I have fairly large teeth so I dont think i'll have an issue with them not fitting and thats also a reason why my ortho suggested clear - because I have a big mouth and smile.
I had ceramics on top, but if I had to pick over again I would go with metal.
The ceramic brackets were much bigger than metal and I had several crack during the first month. The orthodontist said he had received a bad batch and had to replace every ceramic bracket on me and several other patients.
There was no way I was giving up my two favorite C's: Coffee and Curry, so I was constantly fighting stained ligatures and power chains. I found brushing with hydrogen peroxide and baking soda occasionally helped a little.
The biggest reason I would have gone with metal is that once I had them on a few days I didn't feel self conscience at all about braces and didn't really care if they were noticed. I think I ended up being more worried about being seen with yellowed ligatures than if I had gone with all metal.
I have all metal because the ortho I chose recommended damon braces and they are metal. I wanted ceramics, definitely look better though they are not invisible at all! The staining is probably a problem you avoid with metal but of course they do not look as good as ceramics... anyway, I don't regret my decision, my treatment is going well, my ortho seems to know what he's doing and I'm not self-conscious anymore. For me, ceramics are nicer (as long as they are not stained) but it's not a big deal.
I've metal on top and will have it on bottom. Didn't have the ceramics (it would cost me the same with insurance) because I think metal is cuter, clears make the brackets look a lot bigger from catching light and it tends to look more unclean. Plus, I wasn't self conscious about getting the braces, and they do match most of my jewelery.
I have ceramics on top and bottom- it was the first time my ortho had used ceramincs on the bottom but i thought i would feel mismatched having them just on top. I got in-ovation C so no staining worries too so i can eat curry happily & drink lots of tea Of course close up you can see them but from a distance they are far less noticable than metal ones and even tho i'm happy in my braces the more discrete ceramic was definitely they right choice for me.
I have clear on top and bottom and happy with my decision. Ive had no problems with them breaking or anything. Very happy I didnt go with metal. People hardly notice mine. I have clarity.
I have clear on both arches, cost me quite a bit premium but if I hadn't had the option I probably wouldn't have got braces.
I did have metals on my lower pre molars due to the way my bite was which I found annoying as occasionally people would notice them..but given since then I've had a coiled spring, thick rectangular archwires, elastics and now the latest hoops on my wire ties, they pale into insignificance...
I had 9-12 months of people not noticing I had braces. Which out of a 2 year braces treatment, may not be worth the extra £1,000. But if I were to go back in time, I'd do it again.
As everyone else, my opinion is a personal one for me.
I chose ceramic on top and metal damon on bottom. My ortho recommended all damon for comfort reasons and because my teeth and mouth are small, but had no objections with me getting ceramic on top. I definitely feel the difference in size within my mouth, but the number of people that say they can barely see my braces is reassuring enough to have gone with ceramic uppers. I haven't had any issues with the ceramics, but did have a stubborn damon bracket that kept popping off.
