Your case sounds very similar to mine. I have an overjet and I have an openbite (the openbite is a result of a flawed Invisalign treatment by a cosmetic dentist last year...but that's another story...).
I have 10 attachments across the front teeth. They are rectangular in shape and sit at the bottom of each tooth. While my trays fit very well, the reality is that in my case, Invisalign is not invisible. I started a new job when I started this second round of Invisalign, and I immediately hat people looked at my teeth in a puzzled way when I first met them. I have had to very open about the fact that I am getting orthodontic treatment.
Overall people have been very positive and remark on how well the trays fit and how they are sure that I will be very satisfied in the end. I must admit it is very disappointing that treatment in my case is not discreet and invisible as described by the Invisalign website. However, if you are unhappy with your current smile, than I would say that a number of months in treatment should be worth it in the end. Its definitely better than metal braces in my opinion.

Hi alexshrugged and congratulations for taking a giant leap toward a beautiful smile. I have Invisalign on top and regular ceramic braces on the bottom. As you can see, there is no mistaking I am having orthodontic work! People notice. But you have to remember, you are doing this for the outcome, not the process. And you wouldn't be doing it at all if you were happy with your teeth to begin with.
And I think you can see from the photograph, Invisalign is still a LOT less noticeable than the train tracks, right?

So don't worry about it. Suck it up! You'll have gorgeous teeth at the end of it!

Thank you for the picture -- that is reassuring. They're still noticeable but the lack of metal wire makes a huge difference and hopefully they won't be too distracting to people in my day to day. I'm worried because I work in a job where I'm constantly meeting new people, and I'd rather not have to explain my invisalign to everyone....I guess we'll see what happens. At this point, there's no real backing out, I can just hope that I have the self-confidence to not be too self-conscious about them.
Alexshrugged, like you, I work with new people all the time and frequently travel. So far, I have found that people are pleasantly dis-interested in my Invisalign. I do have attachments on my pre-molars that are very visible when I smile. So far, nobody has noticed.
Anyone with straight teeth has probably had braces at some point, and understands having orthodontic work. Since I've been in treatment, I come across a number of adults with braces. I personally know two adults over age 60 with Invisalign.
My biggest problem has not been appearance, but events involving food and drink in business and social circumstances. I often find it easier in these situations to tell people I have plastic braces than to come up with some other excuse. Typically the conversation doesn't go any further unless the other person is considering treatment.
I think you will be pleasantly surprised that your concerns are typically not an issue!!
