had my inman aligners fitted Wednesday last week (19th). The first few days the pain was unbearable whether it was on and off, and has now resided to only being painful upon taking it off and putting it back on.
However, it seems now that where the inman hooks in (the back teeth) the tooth there seems to be a lot more painful than the teeth that are supposedly moving, and has led me to question
a) should the back teeth hurt so much?
b) shouldn't my teeth be more painful still?
Obviously I can't bite down on my front teeth, as that would probably lead to a fair bit of pain, but I can't seem to feel the pressure that I felt constantly in the beginning.
Just looking for assurance that this is normal?

Hi Ems, yeah it's normal my back teeth hurt from time to time still and i have mine since 20th July. I think it's just the initial pain is so weird and you get used to it when it goies you get a bit scared that it has stopped working. But i came on here and read through the posts and found it's normal. My teeth stopped hurting for a while and then all of a sudden started to hurt again and not not so much. I guess what i'm trying to say is as your teeth move the pain varies.....
Any concerns just ask your dentist but i'm sure all is fine
Thanks emmsy, I hope it all goes really well for you and will keep an eye out for how you get on. In the meantime I'm going to have a look and see who does it more locally to me and see what charges they have. Warrenpoint is a fair distance from me but could be ok depending on how often I'd have to go - how often do you need check ups etc?
thought i'd post an update now that i'm almost 2 weeks in. i had my IA fitted on friday the 14th of august in redmond molloy in dublin - found it difficult to get used to and my teeth were very sore but i took the plunge and began wearing it to work on the following monday. i just popped it out for any phonecalls or meetings....
i have my first checkup appointment this friday and i'm hoping some more shaving will move things along. while i've noticed some movement (a gap emerging between my front teeth) - i think my teeth have moved as much as they can for this two weeks. my crooked front tooth has nowhere to go at the moment!
i have only slight sensitivity now when i remove the aligner, eat etc - i would almost prefer my teeth to be more painful when i take the IA out so that it feels like it's doing something!
i know the dentist took some pictures before i got the IA fitted so I'm hoping she'll tell me my teeth have moved more than I think
did anyone else find movement to be slow in the first couple of weeks??
Well, at the initial consultation my moulds were taken, then I'm back in 3 weeks to get the inman. I think check ups are every three weeks/every month after that, from what I've read elsewhere on the thread, so around 6 visits. Good luck!

dont worry it's actually not that bad, i thought i'd be crying cause my teeth felt so sensitive but actually didnt hurt at all !!!
my next app is 8th Sept in Red Molloy before i go on my holidays. Thought i might have the braces off by then but the process has slowed compared to the first 3 weeks
OK I have had this on for one day now and I am surprised.
Yes it feels weird when it was fitted. Took time to sort out fitting etc. I have been wearing it for one day, just taking it out to eat and to brush my teeth etc.
I find no pain so far, although it hurts for a moment or two when I take it out to eat etc. I am hoping this is going to be the norm.
I am SO glad that I never had a lisp as a child cause talking is impossible. On the phone in work, people are asking if I have something wrong with me. It is impossible to speak clearly. I cannot see this ever improving.
I also feel like a bloody St. Bernard .. the drool is incredible!!!
While the dentist said it should take between 4 and 8 weeks to sort the issue out, he said it would definately be at the lower end of this as this is a simple straightening proceedure.
I know this is a short time to have been wearing this device, but it does not feel like it is doing anything.. I would hate to have paid money for a device that doesnt work..
It does feel like I have a trout pout, although those that have seen me say it is bearly noticable (but they fell around laughing when I spoke). I have no pain in my back teeth at the moment and little in the front teeth, which I was worried about, I will post more when I have had this in for a little longer.
Cost wise, cheaper in the North 1100euro as opposed to 1800euro down south. Why the difference we ask?

I definately do feel uncomfortable when I have it in for long periods of time, but no pain per say. Its more a numbing feeling in my teeth that is uncomfortable but not painful, still wondering if this thing is actually working.
Sleep has become more easy alright, although I still feel like Beathoven with the drool on the pillow.

is the back bar sitting up near your gums? i didn't realise that the most efficient way for the IA to sit in your mouth is with the front bar as close to the biting edge as possible, and the back bar as close to your gums as possible - when I had my 2 week appointment the dentist put a small bump of dental cement or something similar behind my front tooth in order to keep the back bar up in the correct position all the time. i found that my teeth were tender all over again (when i took the IA out) after they did this. i have no pain when the IA is in but my teeth are definitely moving
so don't worry - the first 2 weeks are only really for getting used to the IA anyway i.e. speech, drool, pain etc!
Has anyone had it done in Dublin? How much did it cost. Have an appointment for Newry Warrenpoint as here dentists are much better cost wise
I'm getting it done in Redmond-Molloy. It's €1700 - paid in whatever installments you like over the 12 weeks (or however long it takes you) which is really handy.
It's a good bit more expensive than up north but it's on the way to work for me and I have my appointments at 8 in the morning usually so I don't have to take any time off which is worth the extra few hundy i think...
