Having surgery this morning!
Due to crazy circumstances I won't have any family/friends at the hospital. Do hospitals release patients without a loved one, I will take a cab home. Also should I take off my eye contacts off, last thing should I bring my cell phone with me, I was told not to but I won't be able to talk after. have some something entertaining me I suppose.
I have lower jaw and genioplasty.

Best wishes for today!
If you are taking a cab home, depending how long the ride is, it may be a good idea to take a pillow with you for support. It was hard for me to keep my head lifted up(but I also had upper jaw surgery as well) as my neck was sore.
I know some people are able to watch tv or other things while in the hospital but in my case, I just wanted to sleep until the next morning.
You'll definitely want to take your contacts out.
Do you have anyone coming over after you get home to help out?

Surgery went ahead, couple of tips.
You will hate the sore throat.
Learn to breath through your nose before surgery, I was more of mouth breather, since I have sinuses.
Give up on Zip-n-Bags, I ordered 1 month before, nothing, no communications none whatsoever, order with the competitor instead.
Don't schedule the surgery on the day after a long weekend, my care nurses were extremely thin staffed, I had tough time getting ice for my jaw.
My lower jaw was advanced roughly 9-10mm
my chin was advanced 7 mm
I all I hated the breathing, the alcoholic in the bed next to me, the nurse care was stretched beyond the breaking point, I also didn't like morphine, turns out I don't need any pain meds the second day, Morphine was making me nausea's.
would I do it all over again, most likely no, since I cant talk with the splint, my jaw surgery was way ahead of schedule as my ortho said that after 6 months of braces we haven't seen any reall progress, he set me up for a appointment with the surgeon, they just happen to have a date within 5 weeks, so I am jumped on the bandwagon.
sickest thing I got is the tubes the hospital gave me to drink fluids with, it is a 60 oz syringe and the catheter that they cut and put on the syringe nozzle, usuless unless you are only using it for clear liquids.
Thanks a lot zip-n-bags, now to kick start a pay-pal charge back.

totally agree with everyone there that said the first week is the worst, let us know how you are doing after the first week, you might be pleasently surprised with how you are feeling, granted you will prob still be tired and such but it won't be as bad as you imagined it would be!
