Invisalign: imminent
After much deliberation (couple o' days), I decided to go with the clear stuff and join the prestigious Invisalign family. I got my impressions done today and should be in the trays in the next month. The best part is it's only 3995 American. This doctor does this procedure quite a bit and has the elite premier status. I wouldn't be surprised if there are people on here who've worked with him or are working with him.
My bite is a little wonky and I grind a lot, so there are practical motives there. More importantly to me, I look forward to having nice uniform smile. As for the lifestyle problems, whatever, I'll adjust. I also figure this is the best (maybe only) motive to wear a nightguard in the future as nightguard-ation will be worked into my retainer.
I'll get pics up on a later date.

Could I do the following:
- Ice coffee, black
- Beer, white wine
- Diet coke?
With my morning coffee rounds, I'd simply rinse up after my usual 4 cups or so. No sugar involved.
With boozing, say I drink for 6 hours. Could I just rinse up well 2 or 3 times and be fine?
If you don't say a resounding yes to all, I shall cry.

I have had a night out with drinking white wine or beer for about that length of time and simply rinsed with water every hour or so. If you were doing it every weekend then I would be cautious, but every few weeks or once a month you should be ok.
Avoid black tea/coffee or anything coloured, stick to water. I drank quite a lot of beer on a recent vacation and my trays were cloudy by the end of the week and no amount of cleaning them got rid of it! The odd night shouldnt be a problem - god knows, we have to LIVE!!!!!

No advice on the alcohol but like the previous poster said - beer or white wine if you rinse every hour or so shouldn't stain or be a big issue. My doc said any clear or light colored sugar free liquid is allowed (water, diet light color soda like ginger ale or sprite, etc) so would assume that since beer and white wine is light it would be fine if you rinse to keep the sugars from them out of the aligners.
I know people do drink coffee/tea with them in (warm, not scalding hot) and have no staining issues at all. I haven't much so far but the past couple days started drinking my coffee with them in (I use creamer in mine tho so it's black like what you're asking) and have not seen any staining, but it's only been a couple days. Some people use a product that you can soak your aligners in to remove stains/plaque, etc from the aligners every few days so that might be an option too if you do notice a bit of color change in them. I have used denture cleaner (Efferdent/The cleaner that starts with the letter P that has been used in spam posts, so it's censored. tablets) a couple times with no problems (as I saw other people had used them too) just to give them a good cleaning.

I think I could give up most of my coffee. Iced goes down much quicker so I could just stick to one big tumbler in the morning.
The plus is I'm a twice a day eater, 12 and 6 give or take. And I eat in 5-15 minutes, depending on what it is. I should have some wiggle room for nakedness. I may have to add a meal though, of course using the calories I already otherwise consume throughout the day. I tend to snack a lot at night, but on healthier stuff.
Obviously you can't pop in crackers on a whim with Invisamalign, and that's something I make a living off of. I'll have to consolidate all those bites of cheese, pretzels, apples and pears into one bowl of cereal or something when I get home from work or school at 9:30. The first thing I do is check out the fridge at that time anyway.

I was a big snacker too - a handful of chips here or a handful of crackers there, etc. It definitely wasn't helping my dieting efforts LOL. So invisalign is actually helping with that. I do tend to add a "snack" to my lunch or dinner so I'm not starving but what I eat for that isn't nearly as much or as bad as the "grab a handful of this or that" that I was doing.
I think the idea of grabbing a bowl of cereal or similar for one larger snack is a good idea if you aren't trying to lose weight so that you're not too low on calories to make it through the day.
Good luck - I know it takes a while to get into a new "routine" for drinking your coffee and having snacks, etc so your trays aren't out longer than they should be but once you get it down it's like an old hat and seems like that's what you've been doing all along. I used to be a "take an hour to drink my cup of coffee at my desk" in the morning person - but have learned to just let it cool off for a bit and then drink it all within 15-20 mins so my trays aren't out long (and usually grab an english muffin or something at the same time to hold me until lunch). As I said I'm just starting to drink the coffee with them in so that I can lessen that time out even more.

I'll have finished my second cup in about an hour's time. That's not bad. I made it extra strong so I'll see if I could just do two instead of four.
I think I'll probably lose a bit on this stuff, even with adding a meal. I'll know how many calories are in my night meal, but I can't say the same about all that snacking. I'll drink less too. I'm not overweight at 6'4 208 or so, so I could swing either way.

I've been corrupted - at least for a while. I tried drinking coffee with my trays in last week. I'm on a 2 week schedule, so I can 't do but so much damage as long as the coffee isn't too hot. I'm drinking black with artificial sweetener and doing the finger test to be sure its not too hot.
I'm a little over half way through what has become a 17 month treatment plan (longer if there are refinements - Ugh!!) so I'm getting more adventurous. My big challenge is going to be having 9 more lower trays than uppers, meaning I may have to wear my last upper tray for 18 weeks.
Recently, I had to wear a set of trays for 8 weeks due to a mid-course correction. This went beyond where normal brushing with tooth paste keep them clean and I had to use Efferdent on a couple of occasions. This wasn't as effective as I would like, but got me through the 8 weeks with no visible impact on my trays. I'm not sure how this would work for an extended period.
For now, I'm going to enjoy my second cup of coffee in the morning brushing afterwards and continue to enjoy an occasional beer or white wine unless I am told it is a problem.
