How many ppl have lost weight through braces?

#1 Post by camdog »

I have noticed that since having my braces installed ( a few days ago) my teeth are so tender I am only eating soup porridge and noodles! Plus I'm not even chewing, just swalloing really it hurts that bad.

Anyway, in the long run have many of you actually lost a good few pounds because of this?

I would kill for a big crusty pizza right now !! :p haha

I may have gained a little weight in the first few weeks because of the absence of fresh fruits and vegetables in my diet and the increase in softer foods that were made more palatable with butter and cheese. :)

Honestly though, without a substantial lifestyle change, any weight lost will probably creep back on eventually. I feel like permanent, long term weight loss seems to be the exception rather than the rule among anybody who diets, braces-wearing or not. Once I had braces long enough, I went back to eating what I used to, which was actually a little better for me.

I lost about 5 pounds early on an have maintained since then. I think it has had everything to do with eating more slowly. I am at what I consider to be an ideal weight for me.

I lost about 5 pounds the first couple of weeks, but I put it quickly back on when I started to eat like normal again, and I am now the same weight I've always been.

I lost 2kg the first week (about 5lbs I think?). But I have been trying to lose weight. All up since getting my braces I have lost about 15kg (30-40lbs?). But I have been calorie counting, so it was to be expected. But I was impressed with my 2kg the week I got my braces! Haha.

LOL I'm different to everyone else, I've actually packed on 5kgs. Due to the fact that with braces I tend to swallow more so I'm not satisfied with that I'm eating so I keep eating more til I can atleast taste something. I'm looking to gain weight anyway so lovin' it!

I lost a lot of weight not just from braces but a combination from walking to school/work, not having time to eat, not wanting to eat because I don't want to brush my teeth again, and not wanting to snack worrying about food getting stuck in my teeth/cavities when I don't have my toothbrush around. Too lazy to brush my teeth, or the thought of doing all that brushing/flossing after I eat something. When I do get really hungry I gorge on food and then I don't eat for awhile... yeah I usually gage my weight loss by my belt loop and it goes all the way to the end so I think I lost a pant size.
Braced for 23 months 1 week and 3 days!
I had 4 extractions and all my wisdom teeth removed.
I decided to get removal retainers so it will be easier to floss.

Almost 10 pounds in 5 weeks.

I exercise regularly but I think it has more to do with my new eating habits, eating safer foods that won't break anything, not wanting to have to brush my teeth after I eat (3x a day is enough for me and the rinse trick, grosses me out), and having to eat slower and more carefully seems to tire me out.

When you lose weight naturally, (non-surgical) your stomach won't shrink but you get full faster. I goggled it...it has some kind of effect on your appetite. It seems to be working for me.

Besides, when I am spending a lot of money for braces, I have no problem going without the bad foods!

I'm pretty sure I didn't lose any weight and I find this concept odd.

I still eat everything I ate before I got braces. Even when I first got them, I would somehow manage to choke down a cheeseburger no matter how painful it was. I wasn't letting these silly things get in the way of my eating! Oh no.

However, since I got them I have lost some weight but that was due to other reasons, this I know for sure. It wasn't because of my braces.
