Any ladies out there pregnant through this braced journey?
Dh and I just found out we are expecting Baby #1! I was assured from my ortho that being pregnant and braced was not a problem at all and can sometimes be beneficial with all the hormones and can help movement.
What I am not looking forward to it my ortho appointment next week when I get powerchains on my upper and lower arch! I have had a powerchain on my upper for about a month now, and know how uncomfortable it was!! I used to have a glass of wine those first nights to ease the pain, but can't do that anymore. Just concerned I am stuck using tylenol for the pain, which I find doesn't work very well!
Braced.... and now pregnant!!

THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT IT TO THE ADMINISTRATOR., you don't want to be taking tylenol when you begin breast-feeding. Switch to an Ibuprofen-based med like Motrin or Advil and speak to your doctor. There shouldn't be many other changes to your treatment, except there won't be x-rays to check progress, and depending on how far along you are, the dental chair may not be put all the way back.
Congrats!

Congratulations!! That's awesome news.
During my last pregnancy my OBGYN informed me that I was to use only Tylenol during pregnancy but that both Tylenol & Ibuprofen were okay during breastfeeding. Why not Tylenol during bf'ing anymore? I haven't heard this.

Thank you everyone for your responses!!!
Yes, we are truly excited, and while this will be a lot to go through all at once, i know I will not be given more than I can handle. I HOPE to have the braces off by the time our baby arrives. I had them on in August 2009, Ortho told me 6-12 months I would be in them..... Baby arrives in July 2010. So, here's crossing fingers!!
Thank you for the reminder about the xrays. That concerns me a little, doesn't the ortho need to check the root placement or something like that?
Thank you again for all your congrats and advice!

You can often get x-rays after the first trimester. The ob may ask for 2 shields to be placed (not all do) but most often films can be taken if needed.
Most new x-ray systems (especially digital) are VERY low radiation so normally not an issue...again with ob approval first of course.

Hi there,
Well I just found out that I am in the same boat as you!
I got my braces put on Nov. 9 not knowing I was pregnant at the time, now I just found out yesterday that I am probably around 9 weeks. I can't believe it, I am so suprised!
It is a lot to go through at one time, I have to say that if I had known I would not have had the braces on. But they are on now so I can't change anything at this point.
I am also tentatively due July 2010 and it is our first.
The funniest thing about this whole thing is that I really did not even suspect that I was pregnant, but for a few weeks I have been having really bad persistent nausea and I told my husband I was totally convinced that my braces were causing it, like I was having a reaction to the glue or something. Honestly, it sounds ridiculous but I really thought it was my braces making me sick! lol!
Well I am still trying to get my mind around this whole thing! I am so glad that the braces aren't hurting anymore because they are about to be the least of my worries
