I hate having braces!

I think you need to do a little research on the long term effects of poor dental hygiene and crooked teeth. If you opt to get the braces removed (this will be hard to do b/c it's against medical advice, you may have to do it yourself) you will clearly not be wearing any kind of retention device. So, all you have endured up to this point will be mostly for nothing. It sounds to me that you are very ungrateful for what has been handed to you. Do yourself a lifetime favor, endure the remaining time with your braces and retainers. Your life to come will be full of many regrets, don't let this be one of them!

I'm sorry I just have to say you contradict yourself.
You started the post by saying 'I hate the way i look', and how it's affecting you so much, then you say 'it's only teeth lighten up'....
But in all seriousness I have to agree and say that braces is taken a little more seriously because a small amount of metal costs thousands...and thousands doesn't grow on trees...and some like they have said have to endure surgery, which adds to the amount. So either way you look at it, financially it's a massive toll. Maybe when you learn the 'value of a dollar' as the saying goes you will see why some take it as a very huge step. (I'm not attacking you by the way with this but younger people tend not to know about money values unless they worked through teenage years)
In all honesty though this whole post seems a little aggressive...quite negative what both parties are saying

Yep braces suck. I'm wearing them now, I'm 24. I figured it would be 18months - 2 years worth of slight discomfort / vs potentially much much longer with crooked teeth (I hope I live to a ripe old age )
So just put up with it. Life's not perfect, but at least you teeth will be in a few months time.

I think you need to have a serious talk with your dentist to find out what your options are.
I'm not going to make any judgements about you as a person or about your decisions, they are your to make.
However, you do seem a little contradictory. You complain about flossing, and then say that you don't even bother with a floss threader (which really does make it easier) because you don't find it that hard.
I'm not trying to give you a hard time, I just don't really know what you are looking to hear from us?
Do you want sympathy and encouragement to give up on your treatment?
Well, I think you can tell that this community isn't likely to provide that.
I don't know what more to say, or what kind of useful advice I can give.
However, like others have said, many of us in our later years have come to realize how important our teeth are and we are willing to invest thousands of dollars to maintain them properly.
We all wish we had done it sooner and had the opportunity to have it taken care of when we were younger.
I know I'm repeating what others have said, but I wanted to repeat the message in a non-judgemental and helpful way in the hopes that you would seriously consider the message and not abandon your treatment mid-course.
You will regret it later if you give up, but it's your choice to make.

I wanted to throw in my two cents regarding your baby tooth. My sister-in-law retained a baby tooth (her canine). It lasted her until she was in her 40's but then her dentist warned her that is was very unstable and could eventually fall out. Deciduous teeth do not have big roots like permanent teeth do thus eventually become unstable. So at 45 years old my sister-in-law had her baby canine pulled out and her permanent tooth pulled down out of her gum. It was a gamble. She was told that the longer the permanent tooth stays up in the gum the dicer the situation gets as to it's condition and if it can be pulled down successfully.
I realize you really want your braces off now. I can relate. But being short-sighted now will only result in needing another round braces later. A round your parents will not be paying for. You will end up needing that baby tooth pulled out later on down the road---it's just a matter of time. Do you really want to go through this again?
Take care of it now and be done.

Thank you to all of the replies from mature adults. Seriously, some of these replies are just stupid.
nessness- I just wanted to rant because I don't know anybody my age that has braces. That's all. I wasn't expecting such ridiculous comments back. And also, I have been working since I was 16. I am not saying that having braces is not 'serious'. Perhaps that was the wrong word to use to describe some of these people who are replying.
Bellalalala- thank you for your post. It's so nice to be able to talk to normal people. About the flossing thing your right. I guess what I'm saying is that for most of my braces it's easier for me to not use the floss threader but the backs of my teeth are so hard to get to because my mouth is really small. Maybe using it for just those teeth would make it easier. It's just so much easier for my front teeth to just not use anything that I was just like well I'm not using this thing anymore but I never thought of using it just for the back. Thank you for helping a light bulb go off in my head! lol
TumbleDryLow- Thank you so much for your post. I have been thinking about it for a while and I really didn't realize that I would eventually have to get it taken care of but your post has showed me that I probably will. I just really never thought about it and my dentist never said anything.

Aia- I'm your age and have had my braces on for about a year and a half. I'm awating jaw surgery, and who knows who long my braces will be on after that. I don't like my braces, but I didn't get them for a fashion accessory, I got them to sort out my teeth and get me on track for surgery. You can't predict how long the whole process will take because it is so dependent on the current situation.
You've had your braces on a a while now, so what difference does a little longer make? Some days you will feel annoyed by the whole thing, expecially with news of a set back in treatment times, but what can you do? I'm sure you didn't go into this situation saying 'ok I'll have braces, but only if I just have them for a year'. If you get the braces removed early, you'll erase basically the whole year you've had them, and will end up still needing treatment later on anyway for your baby tooth.
Also I wouldn't be so offhand with the other replies you have received. People care about their braces (and surgeries) the same as you care- except your view is negative. I care about my treatment because it effects my life; my braces and surgery will correct my functional issues, as well as any aesthetic concerns, and this is why I'm having the treatment, and waiting out this drawn-out process. I haven't gone into this lightly, and nor have most people on here either. And when you are funding your own treatment, I would take it very seriously

Like I said, i didn't intend to offend you...
It's just that your perspective of it is so negative. Just think of the final result and one day you might even miss the things (I know probably not but being used to something for so long you could miss)
I honestly cannot wait to even begin my treatment. I also have a baby tooth still in with the adult in the roof that hasn't even shown itself yet
6 Months out of your life for the remaining many many years you have left. Just want you to see it a bit differently that's all.
So apologies if I offended you....

Aia,
I'm glad I could be of help.
I understand completely why people reacted to you the way they did. The way you presented your opinions was such that it was inevitable that people on here would be very aggravated by it.
I think you can understand that even though you don't like it.
However, I don't believe in judging people for a frustrated snippet they wrote on the internet.
What I read in your post is that you are frustrated and feeling very demotivated about your treatment.
I think it's very important that you follow through on your treatment, as I really really believe that you will regret giving up after you've come so far.
Hang in there, and good luck.
There really isn't that much left in the long run compared to how much time and pain it will take in the future to fix what happens if you stop now.
That baby tooth is a ticking time-bomb.
You are intelligent enough to know that there is no way that stopping your treatment now is a good or smart decision.
Don't make a bad choice based on frustration.
