Elastics!

#1 Post by Estelle »

Hi
I have had my bace on no for nearly 12 months and am nearly finished! I went to the Ortho yesterday and there are still 2 teeth that are cross biting. Unluckily for me, I have had to have elastics on both sides. The ortho had to stick a new bracket on the inside of 2 teeth and connect the band to the bottom. It feels realy weird! My teeth feel a bit painful today and thinking Iwill have soup for lunch! I have got have the bands in for 3 weeks (next appointment) and am booked in to be de-braced!! Yay! He said though if the 2 teeth haven't corrected by then, I will have to post-pone having the brace off! Fingers crossed I will be able to eat Christmas dinner with NO BRACE!

Has anyone else had experiences with elastics?

Uhg! I wish I could be in elastics! I've been waiting 4 months for my gaps to close. They finally closed, the ortho took off the powerchains and 2 of them opened back up! I'm going back in to have those chains put back on! No way I'm delaying my treatment! I'm supposed to have some of my brackets moved around in December!

I had the same thing on the left side, an elastic from the inside of my top molar going to the outside of my bottom molar. It was really easy to get used to and my crossbite was fixed really quickly.
Good luck!!

How long do you have to wear them for? That must be annoying when they snap! They must be quite tight then.

I have still got powerchains. They worked quite quickly but a couple of teeth were stubborn and took a few adjustments. Why do you need the brackets moved?

Thanks!

Actually, one of the brackets popped off when i was eating a breadstick! So i had to book an emergency appointment on Monday and get it glued back on.
The ortho said the one side had already fixed the crossbite! Wow! It had only been 5 days. He did say it only had about millimetre to go. So now just waiting for one last crossbite!! Roll on 17 December - fingers crossed i will be ready for the brace to come off.

Very quickly. I had to go back to the ortho because one of the inside brackets came off and he said one of the cross bites had corrected itself due to the elastic already! It had only been 5 days! It didn't have far to move though - only about 1 millimetre.

Best of luck

my ortho said that if i wear it all the time it will take a month, BUT there's no chance of that.
i have it for about 3 weaks now and i don't see any changes :( i wear it about 22 hours/day :( i think i'm gonna need thicker elastics or smth

I'm new to elastics as of Monday...wearing a box configuration and I hate them! I look forward to each meal/brushing removal, so I can open my mouth wide and stretch. I'll keep wearing them as prescribed, but I'm less than thrilled with the whole set up.
2/2/09: metal braces T/B
8/20/10: braced removed (18mons, 18days), hawley retainers T/B
9/16/10: LR central incisor extracted (failed root canal)
2/23/11: implant/bone graft
9/15/11: implant crown placed, lower lingual bonding corrected
9/21/11: upper bonding on lateral gaps from upper arch forward advancement
10/17/11: new hawley retainers w/plastic tubing over the 'social six' wire, both T/B

Thats how I feel about my left side. Can't see it working by the next appointment.

Sounds awful. What is a box config?

To put them in more ideal places now that my teeth have mostly straightened.

There is a pic of the box configuration on my story. It goes from upper canine to lower canine to lower pre-molar to upper pre-molar...on both sides.
