The simple explanation of "Everything that you put into your body has to travel through your mouth... your mouth should be in optimum condition for better overall health," should shut them off, preferably followed with a middle finger.

I know how you feel. People seem to think if I made it this far without them, clearly I am just vain. $5000 says it's not vanity.

my co-workers have been surprisingly quiet (apart from my direct peers with whom I discussed my braces with prior to getting them).
Surely when I talk to them they must realise I have a strange lisp and more metal in my mouth then I did last year, but they say nothing. Sometimes I just wish that they would ask or make a comment so that it's out there. Maybe that is just me wanting to get over the awkwardness of it and maybe they don't quite know how to approach it with me.

Talk about an elephant in the room :-)

Alot of people couldnt understant my reasons for undergoing expansion surgery then braces. I didnt really care what they said though because I know that I have done the right thing for me. No one can truly understand whats going with you, except you. I remember one lady said to me 'wow you look really weird with braces on' and my reply was 'better than looking weird without them'. :D

I know what you mean, I have found it easier to deal with people who bring up the subject. There was 1 time, or maybe 2 times, where I felt the person noticed, but didn't say anything, and it felt very awkward.

However, my opinion is 90% of people truly do not notice or care. Some of the people I've pointed out them didn't realize I just got them.

It's not like everybody in the world keeps tabs on who has braces or not ...
