Finishing wires?

#1 Post by dawnmarie »

Okay, so I had finishing wires put on just before Christmas. They don't look any different than what I had before. When I asked the assistant what they were for, her answer wasn't clear. I know they're the last set of wire you get for your treatment, but what do they exactly do?

It depends on what is need to do to finish the case so the "finishing wire" in every case will do different things for different patients.

Finishing wire is a very generic term.

I have no bite issues and no gaps that need to be closed. I'm in powerchains right now to keep spaces closed in my upper arch and I will not be needed elastics. My guess is that it's just to keep things in place where they are...?

It can also be used to move roots in a specific direction so it may not be anything you are really seeing. Can be lots of things.
