Got my braces in today.

#1 Post by chillinhrh »

First post on here but have been reading up to get valuable information. The type I have are self-ligating Damon brackets. I also have bite turbos that were put in a couple weeks ago. Yah those things really are tough to chew with. Now that the braces have been in for a bit my front teeth kill when my lower teeth touch that bite turbo.

So far so good, but I sense it may get more painful in the coming hours. I so savor any kind of normal food at this point. I read from someone else that those with bite turbos really can't eat "normally" for a while. Can't wait till my bite closes up more!!

Thanks for anyone who has read.

Good luck with your treatment! Just like the saying when one door closes, another opens. You just got your braces on, I am getting them off!

I am in a similar situation. They put molar build-ups on my back teeth instead of the bite turbos on the front teeth. I'm not sure why they choose one over the other. My case is a deep overbite.

The molar build-ups at least allow my upper first molars to touch the build up but the surface of the build up is soft and smooth which makes chewing pretty much impossible. The braces by themselves would be no problem but these build ups are killer. Can't wait until they come off.

Yah same here mine is a deep overbite. Right now it does feel like a baseball hit me in my front tooth, which is where the bite turbo is attached.

And oh my gosh flossing, so important but SO hard to do. The complaint I came in with is that my teeth are crowding, but now they are so tight it is hard to get the floss in at all, like i really pushed hard but it didn't go between. Plus when I tried to pull out the floss it didn't all come out!

I have been bad and avoiding flossing and hoping that the combination of an electric toothbrush + waterpik + mouthwash will keep things OK. I'm going to try eventually but there's no way I'm going to do it every single day.

It sounds like your case is very similar to mine. Are you getting any teeth extracted? I am losing two upper teeth next week.

I went to 5 ortho's for their view on treatment plan and cost. There was only one who said he needed to do extractions, so I opted for the non-extraction method =]. I guess I have a big mouth, also had my wisdom teeth taken out. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

I've got to have two uppers out on the 8th March. Last time I had teeth out I was a kid and they knocked me out! Needless to say I'm not looking forward to it.

I've been told that my root is curved into my gum so he is going to cut both crowns before removing the root. They say it sounds worse than it is? Has anyone had this done - this way?
