Bilateral Mandibular Osteotomy

#1 Post by joeniceteeth1 »

Does this just mean lower jaw surgery?

Also, should the patient have any say in whether to do both jaws or should I just forget it and leave it up to the OS and orthodontist?

Mandible - lower jaw. Maxilla - upper jaw.

So yes, you are looking at lower jaw surgery, which is also referred to as Bilateral sagittal split osteotomy (BSSO).

I am having both Leforte (upper) and BSSO (lower) jaw surgery - and the decision was made entirely by my oral surgeon - since I'm not the expert ;)
