I think the concern is that if you're sipping on sugary drinks all day, you're exposing yourself to the potential of much more bacteria, and therefore more plaque. Coating your teeth in sugar every time you drink is bad (and also not great for your body, either--who needs all that sugar?!). But provided you're drinking the sugary stuff at meals and brushing your teeth after, it should be fine. Sipping it all day long is bad news. Oh yeah, and my ortho said not to brush right away after drinking pop or acidic drinks because it can etch away at the enamel.

well i got a packet and it said that sugary stuff can make my cement come off and loosen a bracket and i dont want any of that happening and also ive seen people after they get their braces removed they have a square where their bracket was and i heard thats permanent. so i dont want that either. im just worried i mean im getting braces to make my teeth straight and wouldnt want something else to happen to my teeth.

you should be fine to drink whatever you like, but if your drinking something that will stain then just rinse your mouth out afterwards and it should be fine. Of course you can drink whatever you want but in moderation. Having surgary drinks all day long probably isn't the greatest for your teeth so you may wanna switch it up a bit. Same goes with caffenated drinks as well. In any case, if you are worried just give your mouth a good rinse out after you drink something that you think will stain!

Use a straw and try not to let the drink hit your teeth. That is what I do.
I don't know anyone who swishes with soda or orange juice so you will be okay.
I have had my braces on for almost 5 1/2 months, I have been through 2 packages of straws...I bought them at Walmart for $1.88 for 200.
Also, if I am pout to lunch, I grab an extra straw or two to keep at my desk. My co-workers are even bringing me back straws.
It is a good idea to drink from a straw regardless if you have braces or not. Think about drinking soda from the cup, all that sugar on your teeth..with or without braces...not good.

drink lots
I drink anything and everything I can get my hands on. It actually helps if you have a drink while eating to rinse away some food particles. I drink my coffee and soda through a straw (not giving up my one cup of coffee and pepsi for no one I don't care who you are) I have had no problems with staining or loosening of anything. Plus I drink instant breakfast shakes like they are going out of style when I am in pain and can't eat solids.
