Anyone else had brackets put on thier very back teeth?

#1 Post by camdog »

As far as I am aware, the norm with braces is to have them on all the teeth barring the very back ones.

Well last time I was at the ortho he said next time we will look at putting brackets on the back teeth also.

How common is this and what would be the reason for it?

Thanks guys!

He put them on to widen my bite and correct my cross bite :)

When you say "very back" I don't know if you mean wisdoms or 2nd molars. I've had my wisdoms out, but I have all my teeth bracketed, even very last 2nd molars upper and lower--same reason as wilson123--to widen my arch and correct a crossbite.

I am not sure how common is it.
But all my teeth are with brackets except for the second molar. (upper last teeth )

8 months down the down my orthon decided to put the bracket on the second molar too because I have cross bite at the side and she wants to have a better control and better configuration between my upper and lower teeth.

I have bands/brackets on 27/28 teeth, including 3 out of 4 secondary molars (I do not have wisdom teeth). For a couple of months I had brackets on all 28 teeth although the one bracket was removed to attempt to put a band in, but it did not fit so I currently have a separator making space. That last band is scheduled to go in this Saturday.

It is very rare to have brackets on secondary molars. It makes me super feel special.
I wonder if there are any cases of people having more than 28 brackets, i.e. brackets even on wisdom teeth.

Thanks for the reply's guys, please excuse my ignorance, it is indeed 2nd molars that I am describing (I didn't know what they were called!)

Mine are at a sort of angle and not pointing straight down like the others (is this crossbite?) I assume that is what my ortho is trying to fix.

I have them on my second molars on the bottom. Not sure, but I think it's because I have a deep bite and need correction of all those back teeth.

Yeah , my orthon told me becasue my upper and lower molar doesnt not fit together nicely, she needs to have better control of it and hence swift the band to my 2nd molar. I dont have wisdom teeth btw.

I don't have them yet, but I suspect that I will since they need to correct my deep bite. I think that is part of the eventual plan, though I'm not sure which stage it is. Stage 2 is the bite plate.

At first I was not bracketed on the very last tooth either, but slowly and eventually she put them on the back as well.. I don't know why actually, but always guessed that it was to widen the rest of my teeth b/c the last teeth were always a little wider out. What bothers me is she had to band most of those last teeth too. I worry about the process of taking the bands off.

I had brackets on all teeth. My very back 4 teeth were in the perfect position and if i remember right they were bracketed to aid in the widening of the arch.
