I know it's a ways off, but I just got my SARPE scheduled for Sept. 14...anyone else here having surgery in September?

Good luck with your surgery! I am actually having surgery August 3, but i thought id say hi. I tried starting a August buddies, but no one joined. I think that May, June, July does so well, because a lot of people have surgeries in the summer. Anyways I am having Segmental Lefort I Osteotomy. Super worried, going to the beach with the family next week and than coming back on Sunday and the surgery will be Tuesday, So I know its going to be here quick! I am super worried, I have school the end of August and a registration thing 10 days after surgery so I am hoping to do well! anyways good luck again!

Hi I'm set to have my lower jaw advanced by around 8mm on September 6th, so a little over 6 weeks to wait starting to get a little nervous about it now but looking forward to it as well.

I'm scheduled for September 15. Upper 1 piece LeFort with impaction and lower BSSO. I was slated for July, but had something come up with work so I got moved to September.

It's getting really close. I want nothing more than this to be behind me as it has been a long road, but I'm fully aware how the first 2 weeks post-op can be a challenge and I can't say I'm looking forward to that part.

Hoping to hear from others in the September 2010 club!

September 14 for me! I can't wait! I'm 34 so have wanted this for a while but hadn't realised how accessible it could be, and easy (ok the braces part, the surgeon appointments and booking it all in). I've had linguals for just under a year and have barely told anyone. Haven't even told many about my scheduled surgery.

I can't wait for the day I can be confident about smiling and talking to people. It's amazing how much a lack of self confidence affects your life.

I have a toddler and decided to get this done as much as for her benefit as my own. I don't want her to be embarrassed about her mum, I don't want her to suffer because I was too scared to get braces in the event that she needs them. She has a dummy when she gets upset, and when we're out in public I can't help but think people are judging me, looking at my face thinking how much wrong I'm doing my child. When she was a baby- strangers would come up and tell me how beautiful she was. I could see their expression when I smiled and said thank you.

As I said, the self esteem suffers and all the pain of surgery and recovery is definitely going to be worth it.

Oh, and I've already lost about 8 kilos (22 pounds). Whenever I previously lost weight I would look gaunt and my overbite would be more noticable. So hoping to lose some more weight post-op and feeling good about things these days.

Bring on September 14!!!

Been lurking around forums for awhile, but have finally got my date for surgery too yesterday.

I'm having lower jaw advanced forward, just not sure of all the nitty gritty details as I kinda forgot to write them down. Though happen to be scheulded in for September 4th so slightly nervous now about that as I have been waiting for a date since May. Final appointment on Monday morning with surgeon too

Any nice little tips etc would be great too i guess.

Good luck everyone! Nerves are normal, but try not to worry. The first week isn't great, but the first day will be more hazy half-sleep type of a day which shouldn't be terrible.

For the first week, remember to just take it easy, drink a lot of water, and try and eat often. I also bought a comedy book (for those in the UK, it was This Mitchell and Webb Book*) that I kept with me when I went to bed, so if I had trouble sleeping I could enjoy the book without it being to much work.

If you're staying longer in hospital, ask the nurses for some ice for your face on the first day: I have a propensity for swelling rather than bruising, and I swear I looked like some sort of deep-water sea monster the first week. Also lip balm is key.

I'm sure we're all getting nervous, I'm a week away from mine at moment and I know they are starting to kick in. Have final appointment on 31st August, Tuesday with my surgeon then the real thing happens next sat morning

We have to kick this post into high gear! I'm still set for 9/15 - I had my presurgical physical yesterday and I guess I'm cleared to get my jaw sawed off!!

I'm doing my best to not think about it, but it's hard. Next weekend I'm doing my "shopping" to ensure I have everything I need for the first couple of weeks where I won't be able to leave my house.

How is everybody getting ready? Anybody else out there due for September?

Yesterday I had my pre-op physical and blood work done...everything is a-OK so T-minus 17 days till surgery!

I've final hospital appointment tomorrow with my surgeon for blood work etc so I'm sure nerves will kick in more tomorrow as my surgery is Saturday morning. Anyone any tips for supplies etc as I've been looking through the sticky post on top
Of forums but any other little tips would be good

Hi there, i am new to the site.

I had SARME on 14th August 2010, also had three teeth taken out and anchorage plates inserted into my maxilla.

I have to say that after all the research i did (it was A LOT) the whole thing has been lots less scary than i expected! The surgery took 2 hours, i woke up easily and as soon as i was back in the ward i was talking and asking for drinks and yoghurt. Everyone said that i recovered really well, a little swelling and 1 small bruise.

I felt pretty shaky and weak for the first few days, i stayed in the hospital for two nights. After about day 5 i really started to feel better and i was able to eat something other than soup or smoothies.

The gap in my teeth got to about 6mm and today the ortho said i could stop turning....YAY!

The part that i have found harder than expected is the sheer amount of metal in my mouth, it is hard to talk and eating is not fun really. I still cannot chew harder things but i am getting there. The turning of the expander is weird but not too bad, i woke up a couple of times with pain in the night after turning it but nothing that Panadol could not control.

It really is not as scary as you might think it is and you will be surprised at how quickly you start to feel normal again.

I think taking Arnica before and after really helped with the swelling and trying to get up and go for little walks each day to get the blood flowing around the body is great.

Now a year or so of braces then the next surgery at the end of next year, lets hope i can be more calm for that one!

Has anyone had the SARME and mandible advancment? Which did you think was worse??
