So there's hope! Thanks!Audra wrote:My bite closed within a week after getting elastics from the ortho when the splint was taken out. I changed my elastics 3 times a day.

I had upper and lower jaw surgery to fix a 100% overbite. After surgery, my bite was initially pretty messed up. All of a sudden I had an overjet, crooked midline on the bottom jaw, and none of my back teeth met up. Within a week of getting elastics, my back teeth met up. Now I have a new configuration and my overjet is gone, my midline is quickly lining up and I'm happy with it all. I didn't realize how amazing elastics were!
Long live elastics!
Long live elastics!
Well my latest news is that I've developed a lump in my lower jaw which turns out to be an inflamed lymph node. My surgeon said that they can sometimes react by turning into marbles! So I'm back on antibiotics as a precaution. It doesn't hurt unless I touch it but I was a bit worried for a while that this sizeable hard lump indicated problems with the plates or screws. But it's not, my surgeon showed me on the x-rays that it's nowhere near the screws or plates.

That's annoying Must have been very disappointing.. But soon IT WILL be over!
I still have a lot of residual swelling and I feel that I look very manly - which isn't good when you're a 19-year-old girl. It's just around my nose, above my upper lip and my nose itself. I'm so extremely conscious about my appearence that I've started to become very annoyed with myself
Please don't be! I am in the exact same position as you, with that damn residual swelling around my nose/cheeks, and I was feeling a bit worried it would last weeks (that's what I was warned) - but recently I noticed it's gone on the left side! I didn't even notice, it felt like it happened overnight. It'll go, stay positive!VikingGirl wrote:

Now I've got to wait for the right side to catch up... and my nose to get a little less crooked... all in good time!

Good to know - I also had started to fear that it would stay around forever.. I think I'd rather have noticeable more swelling in one side of my face - at least people can tell that it's swelling and not just your face
Hi all,
My ears are still "muted" for lack of a better word. Every now and then they pop and I can hear again but for the most part, my hearing is clogged. Anyone else have that experience? I still get the earache in the left ear every now and then but the frequency has gone down for that. Hope everyone is doing well!
Aviv16 - thankfully I do not have marble-like lymph nodes! How are you doing?

Had my 5 week check up at the hospital! Told me to contact them in 6 months time if my nose still looks weird. They would do it for me .. Apparently it messed up the balance in the universe and I damaged my car on the way home - it's going to cost the same amount as the nose-fixing. Strange.
Can't believe it's already been so long since the surgery! Imagine how we all dreaded the day!

A fun story that might cheer some of my poofy-cheek friends up!
An aquintance asked me if I had an older sister, who works out at that particular place we wear at. I said no and he started to explain to me just HOW much I looked like that "Viking-Girl".. Haha, I felt sorry for him, but it just means that even though I feel like a bloated walrus, apparently my face now looks .. Normal!

Same here. At first they were doing a ok, but now they are eating food in front of me and it really stinks, especially when they eat foods that I really want right now, though everything looks good to me right now.isolde wrote:My family insist on eating my favourite foods whilst I am still drinking freaking soup.
They're ordering pizza tomorrow. No fair.
And I don't see my orthodontist for another 2 weeks! Bloody bands. Is anyone here on soft chew yet?
Luckily I get my wires taken out on Tuesday, so not much longer on this liquid diet.
He told me last time I visit that when he takes my wires off I can eat pretty much whatever I can fit in my mouth, said my bite won't be fully open when he does it.
I am sick of soup though.
I have hope in that case. I was thinking my ortho was being overly careful but maybe next visit!?! I say that every time.James0099 wrote: Same here. Ahh everything looks good to me too. I'm having cravings for really boring foods as well I'm that hungry, like cucumber sandwiches. And chips! All I want is to walk into the fish&chip shop and buy a portion of chips.
No matter how many different flavours of soup I buy, it just won't satisfy.
N.B. Stilton and Broccoli is awful. I like stilton but man it's not good puréed with broccoli.
