Nervous for my debanding

#1 Post by PrincessPeach »

I get my braces off in 3 days, now clearly i am excited and sooo happy that they're coming off, but in the same boat i am nervous...

I'm nervous about getting my retainers, and about how my teeth will look after all this....is this normal or is it just me being crazy?
Lower Braces = 22nd June 09 - 2nd Sept 10 (14 months, 1 week & 4 days)
Upper braces = 10th August 09 - 2nd Sept 10 (12 months, 3 weeks & 2 days)

Are you kidding? I'm probably a little less than three MONTHS away from debanding and I'm already apprehensive about whether everything will finish how I want it (you're probably past this stage), if my teeth will move before I get retainers, if my ortho will be able to glue the wire to keep my front teeth from ever coming apart again, if my retainers will be made correctly, and even if my dog (who is a pretty crafty Jack Russell) will find my retainers despite trying to keep them from her little paws! So no, I personally don't think our thoughts are a sign of mental illness. Possibly a sign of spending too much time in braces, but I think it will be cleared up when the braces come off and everything that we're worried about now works itself out. Congratulations by the way! I wish you a smooth and uneventful debanding.

You are totally normal! My debanding date is in November, and I am a bit nervous about it. What if I don't like the way my teeth look? What if they get crooked again? What if I have white spots on my teeth?

See, you are not crazy. We all worry about debanding. Think of it this way, you are so used to having your braces that it's like second nature to you. In a matter of days, they will be gone. That is a huge change.

Just think of that beautiful smile! Best of luck to you!!!!

I am worried too.. and I'm a couple seasons away from getting them off. What I worry about is the actual debanding.. some of the bands are on crowns and I don't know if there are any horror stories around where the crowns actually fall off. I'm super worried about that first and foremost.

Second, I'm worried about my teeth moving back again. I'll be super depressed about that, b/c I had extractions and there is not much you can do if they move back.. it's not like I'm going to extract more teeth again you know?

Third, I do worry a little about white spots.. but my ortho said my teeth look good, so that's a really minor worry.

Normal

#6 Post by lindesd »

I had an appt yesterday and my ortho said that she will see if I am ready for deband next time. So, in the meantime be looking to see if there are any areas of concern.

So, I AM SCARED TO DEATH! What if something pops up after deband, (e.g., spaces open up, wish I would have noticed this, , wish I would have noticed that, what about spots on my teeth, etc..etc..etc..)...NO, you are normal!!!

I thought I being crazy!

The thing is, I didn't realize all the perils of debanding, until I came here! This site made me crazy, lol.

I didn't realize for example, that my teeth could go back to crooked after braces. I never realized either how many people have to get braced a second time, either. I am constantly wondering if my retainers are going to work and if my teeth are going to regress at all. I didnt' have any of those fears before getting braced! i'm so worried. YET I'm completely looking forward to getting these things off!!!
