Is it normal for your bite not to look great after surgery

#1 Post by James0099 »

I had my splint taken out today and my bite doesn't look very good. My upper jaw is now over my bottom, I originally had a underbite. But it looks like a lot of teeth still aren't touching.

I didn't see it in the office with my surgeon as I didn't have a mirror. I have appointment with my ortho next week. I'm guessing that the braces will fix this now.

My lower jaw feels behind my top and almost like a overbite now, but I heard people say how surgeons purposely do this because the bite moves a bit.

That is absolutely normal. I asked my surgeon about that because my back teeth did not meet when the splint came out. He said they do that on purpose (did not really understand what he said about the reason why).

Your bite will be corrected by the orthodontist using elastics.
