Spring Retainer, Metal Braces, or Simpli5??

#1 Post by ps »

Hi Everyone!
So I'm a newbie at this and wanted some much needed opinions. So I've had braces before and like many of you, didn't wear my retainer :( So now my lower teeth are starting to shift! I just went to a new orthodontist (I've moved away from my old one) and wanted to get a top retainer (so nothing else moves) and wanted to find out my options for fixing my lowers (even though they're not that bad yet).

I was told that a spring retainer would "help a little", but not much considering my canine is rotated, Simpli5 would be the best, invisible option, but wouldn't completely fix it, and that regular braces (just on the bottom) would be the only way to really fix that canine. I asked about Invisalign, but that would be the most expensive option since they don't do 1 arch only (and my top teeth are fine).

I did some research and it appears like the Simpli5 may be somewhat expensive for only a semi-decent fix, so I'm wondering if anyone had good success with it (especially for canines), or maybe it's better to just get braces? I don't really care that much about the expense or the visual part (since it's the lowers) but I figure if I'm putting in time, effort and some money anyways, I'd hate to be disappointed by a semi-fix.
Any advice?
I've posted some pictures here if it'll help!

Please post photos, not links to photos. Thanks!
I'm the owner/admin of this site. Had ceramic uppers, metal lowers ~3 years in my early 40's. Now in Hawley retainers at night!

In general, there are very few treatments that would provide a significant difference in 5 trays or less (Simpli5). While there are no attachments in Simpli5, keep in mind that this limits the amount of movement that can be achieved. Keep in mind that just because the aligners look straight does not mean the teeth will look like that at the end.

If you're looking for complete single arch treatment without paying a full Invisalign fee, then you're likely best off with fixed orthodontics. Good luck!
