Hi, Im looking to get invisalign, my upper teeth are not too bad but Id like them pushed outwards a bit & tilted outwards a bit. Just a bit of a tidy up really to make a wider arch.
My lower teeth Im fairly happy with but maybe they could do with tilting outwards a little.
When I was younger I had a removable brace & some extractions due to crowding.
I have just got back from a visit to a cosmetic dentists who took some pictures & told me I had 2 teeth removed from 1 side (lower) & 3 from the other so its going to be hard to match my teeth up correctly top to bottom unless I have a tooth removed from the other side. My midline (lower) is slightly off but Im actually ok with my lower teeth & dont want another removed. I would be happy to just treat the upper teeth but this dentist just kept saying the main problem was with my lowers.
I have been quoted £3995 for uppers & lowers (£2995 for 1 set) & this includes whitening gel. £200 for xrays & impressions. £600 for retainers (both sets) & £600 for a new veneer if I need 1 - if my tooth isnt damaged underneath I wont need 1 just have the current 1 removed.
Is the price ok? Should I shop around. As its a cosmetic practice she was trying to sell me a lot of things like botox, fillers, replacement fillings to white ones etc. Would I be better off with a regular dentist who does invisalign rather than a cosmetic one? & Im not sure about this tooth out thing, I think she's looking at a technically perfect smile for me when Im happy with just my uppers doing, any thoughts / comments appreciated, thank you.

I meant to say - would I be better to see an orthodontist rather than a cosmetic dentist who does invsalign, there is an ortho near me who does invisalign but he would not be able to sort out the veneer issue. Both the ortho & the cosmetic dentist are listed on the invisalign website.
Maybe I should have a consultation with both before deciding, I didnt feel completely comfortable today with this lowers & tooth out thing.

I personally think it would be good if you also went for a consultation with the Orthodontist too. If you didn't feel 100% comfortable with the first, don't rush into anything and have a consult elsewhere to see if they can offer a different treatment plan and to see if you feel more comfortable with them.
I've had two consultations so far (for fixed braces though) and the first didn't go so well... Once I had my 2nd consultation with another Orthodontist, I realised even more just how 'off' the first one was as by then I had something to compare it to. I didn't feel comfortable with the first Orthodontist and I didn't like his treatment plan, the 2nd consultation with the other Ortho was totally different! and in a good way.
Good luck!

From your post, it appears your treatment goals are different from those of the cosmetic dentist. I agree with your comments about not pulling additional teeth unless necessary. Perhaps you will be best served by having a couple of new opinions from Orthodontists, depending on what you may have to spend on these.
Orthodontics isn't necessarily about appearance although it is important. The problems with your lower teeth may relate to bite problems as well as how your teeth look. In my case, I had no problems with how my teeth looked but required treatment because a bite problem was damaging my gums and teeth.
As I am nearing the end of treatment, my orthodontist noticed a slight rotation with one of my lower front teeth and wanted to do further adjustments. I'm fine with the tooth as it is as the only way to see the problem is looking straight down at the tooth - nobody would ever see it in a normal conversation. We agreed to leave things as they are so I could avoid extending treatment. Since the major dental problems have been corrected, I'm very happy with the results, even if slightly less than totally perfect.

Thanks for the replies.
Yes I think I will go for a consultation with the ortho. I think me & the lady today just had different ideas, Im happy with minor alterations which I think will improve my smile, rather than going into it on a major scale to get it absolutely perfect.
So when invisalign send back the images, who decides what that final look will be, invisalign? or the dentist? What if its not quite what I want can it be altered before the treatment starts or do the trays come straight away with the image?

Your orthodontist will be the primary person responsible for results. While Invisalign does do the computer treatment plan, your orthodontist will modify it as needed to meet your treatment goals.
Probably the best recommendation I can make is to discuss your treatment goals with your orthodontist and your concern about not having more teeth extracted. A comment here - orthodontists will tend to be perfectionist - their job is to do perfect alignments. You'll need to have a clear agreement for both of you as you start and this should be in a written treatment plan.
In my case, there was no computer simulation available as much of my tooth movement is vertical and being done by techniques that Invisalign doesn't forecast. Even though this method has been slow, it is turning out to be very successful. This is where an experienced orthodontist is better than a regular dentist.
Good luck!!
