Finally..it's happening!!!

#1 Post by ChocolateKate »

I'm 31 years old and finally getting braces! I am correcting a diastema that was given to me genetically! LOL.. I am so excited that the time has finally come!!!! I do not enjoy the spacers, they are horrible just as everyone said they would be. The orthodontist said spacers were the worst part and I cannot wait to get these suckers off next week! Ive been eating soft ripe cantaloupe, strawberries and more potatoe soup than I can handle! I might of lost a few pounds this week because of it! I cannot believe that by this time next year my gap will be no more! WOW!!

ChocolateKate-

Congrats to you!! Your ortho was right - the spacers were the worst! They had a hell of a time just getting mine in. My doc used all his strength, and was still barely able to get them in. Then one of them fell out (I think I ate it!) and the replacement one I bit in half, so it was just kinda hangin' on for dear life. Once he took them out and put the molar bands in (which wasn't a picnic, either), everything else was a piece of... chocolate cake!

You only have to have them for 1 year? Lucky bugger. I think I have mine for 2, but I'm going to be very diligent in my care and elastic wear so I could hopefully get them off sooner.

I lost a few pounds initially, too, but then I figured out how to eat things, so I would say I've lost about 5 pounds in the last 5 months, and probably won't lose anymore.

Cheers!

Congratulations! The spacers are definitely the worst part. You will be able to return to an original diet in a few weeks. I lot a few pounds, but they came back once I got used to my braces.

Best of luck to you! Being braces as a 30-something rocks!

Thanks for all your replies. I am happy to know that the worst will be over in 24 hours! My jaw and ears are in pain and I'm sure the spacers have something to do with it. I'll keep popping motrin in the meantime!
