So what is considered a full smile?

#1 Post by tdawg7669 »

I just want to know if I have a gummy smile. When I smile as full as I can(lip raised as far as it will go) I show a lot of gum. However when I smile naturally I show some gum but not enough to be considered a gummy smile or to warrant surgery.

The thing is though, my face looks to be more natural when I am smiling as full as I can than when I am smiling at the width that feels natural.

So what do you think constitutes a full smile?

When I think full smile, I think full teeth showing. Before braces I did a half smile to cover up my teeth. Now, I have to do a full smile to get my lip over the brackets

Full smile is the same smile you'd have if you were laughing or if you were genuinely happy to see somebody.

Why don't you post your smiles so we have a better idea?

I do that, too! I guess it's good practice to "smile big" for when we get our braces off. I'm nowhere near getting debraced, yet I'm still thrilled at the prospect of beautiful teeth. :D

My opinion is that people have a full smile when they are not self conscious about it, and they are not holding anything back.

I completely agree, I don't think I ever fully smiled before braces as I was hiding my wonky teeth, I certainly don't smile as fully as I want to with braces, I guess i'll finally see my full smile when they finally come off!!
Braced for 19 months 2 weeks and 2 days.

I can't wait for my full smile.. I find that even with braces I rarely smile fully.. I hate this hardware and many times I think I have food in teeth. LOL.
