In the two years I had braces I never used an orthodontic toothbrush, and my dentist and hygienist said I had perfect dental hygiene. Just go buy a regular toothbrush.

I used an electric toothbrush - Oral B Professional. When I did use a manual toothbrush (at work etc) I just used a soft toothbrush.

Hi Fleur,

I'm also in the UK and you're right, it's really difficult to find orthodontic toothbrushes here - you'd think at least Boots would sell them! I found a UK site called orthostore.co.uk which sells orthodontic brushes. They're not the sort of quality you'd expect of Oral B or a similar brand, but they are cheap. They also have a little brush on the end for under the wires. The rate I go through brushes now I'm braced, that doesn't matter.

Yes, we've got a big boots near us on a retail park, i was sure they'd sell something! Weird isnt it as there must be a demand - kids and adults in braces!

My ortho said my cleaning was good, and said a normal brush is fine as I asked about getting an electric one.

But then 2 days later I went for a curry.....turmeric and clear ligs......ARGH!!! they need to invent a stain remover that we can use!!

Hellooo :)
I had the same problem when i wanted a new one and couldn't easily get to my ortho, so i went to a dentist in the town i have moved to for university and politely asked if they had orthodontic toothbrushes and they looked at my like i was insane/had just made it up on the spot there for a joke! It was quite offensive actually haha
Eventually got some more though from my ortho at home :) hoorah!
