are you exhausted?
I have had my braces 4 days and the last 2 days I have been feeling exhausted. I am trying to watch my caloric intake to make sure I am eating enough. My teeth only touch on my back teeth on my right side so I am eating only really soft foods that don't require chewing. I would not usually nap during the day, but right now if I sit down I easily fall asleep anytime. I feel like I am sleeping well at night, so not sure why I am so wiped out. I was wondering if anyone is noticing the same thing.
Honestly I felt fine after three days. What I did was, I refused to use any wax even though my mouth was getting cut up. I also ate as much as I usually did through the pain. I think this forced my mouth to adjust for the appliance, and now, its ALMOST as if nothing is there at all, even after going in for adjustments.
I am so glad it is going so well for you. I have not had any pain, just minor discomfort. My bite does not match at this point, so trying to chew is pretty useless. So I have been eating a soft diet that I can just swallow easily. I feel like I snack often, just can't get past the feeling of being exhausted. You have given me hope, maybe as I adjust I will feel more energetic. Thanks!
I got mine yesterday. I'm tired too, but so far I think that's because I was so keyed up for two weeks waiting to get them I'm wet noodley now that I'm past the point of no return.
I can only "chew" on my right side too because of some bumpers I had to have on. I've tried soup, some pasta, soggy cereal, a banana (now THAT looked terrible!) and I managed to gum my way through some french fries. I'm not too upset with having to eat soft food for a while, no big deal. I would snack more often but brushing is a pain so I've just waiting for my main meals to eat.
I'm going out for a birthday dinner tomorrow night and it'll be mexican. Rice, refried beans will go done well. I hope no one minds if I lick guacamole off a tortilla chip...

I got mine on a Thursday and all weekend I was tired from forcing myself to eat. It just wasn't a pleasant experience. The following week I was eating like perfectly again.
It's completely worth the inconvenience for the results we will have.
Just think about how happy you'll be with amazing teeth. I can't wait to stop hiding my teeth in photos.

Thank you all so much for replying. I do feel better today. I had ravioli for dinner last night and actually felt like I had eaten a "real" meal. I bought some protein shakes, so they may help also. Today is the first day that my mouth is starting to feel like something is happening. One of my front teeth crosses slightly over the other, well, the crossover tooth feels like it is getting pushed off the other one. I am liking the little bit of discomfort because it feels like my braces are really going to make some big improvements in my teeth. I have been very productive today and am feeling very happy. I hope you all have a great day. I am grateful for your support!
Hi -
I didn't feel tired or anything when I first got braces. I also tried to eat all different kinds of things, so I would get used to eating with braces. My teeth don't feel sore when I eat now, even after adjustments. However, I did the same thing tdawg did - refuse to wear wax - for a month and I still never got used to the braces. For the last two months, I've been wearing silicone wax all over because the hooks and brackets still cut up my mouth a lot. I hate it.

sadpanda, I hope this gets easier on you also. I hate to hear about your mouth being torn up. I have only used wax one night. So far I can manage. I do take rapid release Tylenol when I need it. It seems to make all the difference. I have not taken any since this morning. I need to stop talking so much to give my mouth a rest....that will probably help me more than anything! lol
I'd just like to add here that I too am POOOOPed today. This weekend was a wash out. I had to come home half way through my Saturday errands just to lay down for an hour. Today I've got a wicked head ache that goes down to my shoulders. That could be a TMD thing, but my jaw hasn't clicked since my braces went on (my teeth don't meet for me to bite down hard enough) and funnily, my teeth feel fine, just a little numb and tight.
I've never broken a bone, but if you break an arm, do you get this tired while your bones mend? Is my jaw sucking up all my strength to heal as my teeth slowly move?
