Hi,
Just wondering if there were any issues if I got pregnant during treatment. Have seen lots of posts from a couple years back - has anyone actually gone through the pregnancy/braces thing and its been OK?
I want to start a family (am 30) but darent ask the ortho if it will be a problem, what if he says i shouldnt!
Also, may take ages to get pg anyway, who knows I could still be trying in 2-3 years time! So keen to get started. dont want to wait 18mths, get debanded and then it takes 2-3 years. would be 35ish!
Thanks!

Hey! Good luck and lots of Baby Dust!!
I just had my little one 3 months ago. The only issue I had was when I got elastics and had to wear them at the end of my pregnancy. On top of not being able to sleep comfortable anyways, they gave me a headache and I didn't wear them consistantly. Which didn't help with the headaches because I never "got used" to wearing them at that point. Other than that, I didn't have any medical issues related to getting braces. Just remember that you cannot rinse with flouride when you are pregnant and pay extra attention to brushing your teeth. You won't be able to take ibuprofen (Advil) while pregnant either, so depending on if you even need it for adjustments, the recommended meds. would be Tylenol if you absolutely have to take something. Oh and any xrays you may need during treatment may have to wait, of course.
I felt sick a lot (morning sickness), but never really vomited (TMI, sorry!) so I wouldn't be able to tell you anything about dealing with that and braces. I felt a little insecure sometimes with my braces, but I'm SO happy that I have my little boys and I'm so happy that I am getting my teeth straightened. This last pregnancy I just can't even imagine anything being different. Even having my braces.

I was pregnant during treatment (lower ceramics and upper linguals) removed a month or so before the end of my pregnancy. I asked my ortho for X-rays before I got pregnant. In terms of pain relief paracetamol was fine. No issues really, my ortho told me you couldn't expect to keep life on hold for a couple of years and not to worry about pregnancy, the hormone relaxin can make teeth move faster & they do use the lowest possible dose of X-ray in patients with suspected abssesses etc during pregnancy, which is less radiation than a flight, but told not necessary for ortho work.
thanks for the replies! Makes me feel a bit easier about it. to be honest I have only been needing paracetemol occasionally during treatment so it's not going to be too much of an issue with pain relief.
I had x-rays before i was fitted. do they take other xrays during treatment too? I have no idea what is in store regarding treatment although i am a fairly straightforward case i think, just need straightening and cross-bite sorting. dont need surgery or palate expanders etc.
