Dry Lips

#1 Post by smilelikeyoumeanit »

Does anyone else have super dry lips because of braces? I feel like I look like a little kid today, my lips are so red because of dryness. I've been using a lot of lip balm, but it only seems to help a little.

Do any braces veterans have any tips?

Blistex ointment is my secret weapon. I have tried just about every lip balm out there, and Blistex is the only one that works for me to keep my lips hydrated without leaving a film behind.

I've got dry lip syndrome too. I treated myself to some flavoured lip gloss and scattered them around my apartment so there's one within arms reach of everywhere. I might as well enjoy the flavour if I'm going to be using it so much. And with winter coming on, the dryness could get worse.

Before braces I could not stand lipbalm...during braces I became addicted to it.
I think you will have to try a few different kinds, that's the only way to find what works for you.
For me Nivea is a blessing. (the blue one)

Having a humidifier in the house really seems to help. I also use blistex medicated all the time. I'm wondering if anyone has tried the new neosporin lip treatment?

The best thing for that is to brush your lips with your tooth brush after your teeth, then put whatever balm you prefer on. That gets rid of the dry yucky skin and helps seal in moisture.

I've had dry lips since being braced over 7 months ago. Really best advise I can give you is always have lip balm handy, in your bag, in your car, in your pocket. No lip balm has been a miracle for me as i lick it off but i do like the strawberry flavoured one...lol. If I'm adicted to lip balm well so be it. Good luck :)

I carry lip balm with me everywhere I go (I like the blue Blistex with extra moisture, it feels slick). Problem is, with the braces I can't rub my lips together like I used to (you know, the way you "kiss" your lips together when you put on lipstick?) so I always feel like I'm wearing too much... ;)

I have horrible, really red, dry lips with peeling skin and cracked corners that bleed. I've tried everything and constantly keep putting chapstick or whatever on my lips. They really hurt too. I've tried the NeoSporin daily and nightly lip treatment. The daily one is pretty good, but it's white and I have that problem trying to rub my lips together, so I can't always get it to look invisible. I put the nightly lip treatment on at bed time every night. It's also white, but that's not a big deal. I think it helps, but it's kind of annoying that it's not a stick...it's a little round thing, so you have to put the cream on with your finger or Qtip or something. They're both pretty expensive though. I'm always looking for new lip products because my lips are so bad. I've noticed the dryness more since I got braces, but I must admit that when the weather gets cold, my lips get dry and crack. I've found that the medicated lip balms make me feel like my lips are burning, so I guess I'm pretty picky. :?

I think coconut oil helps dryness. Better get an organic once. Can use it for cooking too. Then there is sweet almond oil and appricot oil. I put oil on my dry patches. But I canot really tell the difference for lips. My lips are not dry and were not really affected by braces. I have big lips and still can smack them  . May be it is too early to tell.

I get dry lips all the time, braces or no braces :(

My fave lip balm is Blistex. The one in the little white tub with red writing.

This stuff is seriously amazing! It repairs your lips pretty much instantly and leaves them smooth and soft.
