The assistants do all of the adjustment work at my ortho. He comes and takes a ten second look in my mouth and tells the assistant what he wants done. He is nice enough to ask how I have been doing though!

I've only been braced for 6 days, so I can't comment on how much is done by the ortho vs the assistants.
But I can say that my ortho's office is set up with 6 to 8 chairs in one room, all in a circle facing outwards. The idea of being treated in the same room as other patients made me extremely uncomfortable, but when I asked the ortho about the set-up, he told me it was pretty standard for most offices. I figured there was no point in trying to find a different office with more privacy if they are so rare, so it was a 'suck-it-up-princess' situation.

i've only had my braces for a couple of weeks, but i thought i'd join in and comment on this thread.
i am in melb, aus and my ortho's office is open with 3 chairs. he is the only orthodontist there, but when i was having my braces fitted (by his assistent) there was someone else getting xrays taken (by my ortho). but at my initial consult i was in the ortho's office which has a door and stuff so not in front of everyone. The office has one orthodontist and 2 assistants and they all seem to do all of the work, depending on who's free/how busy they are. i'm fine with it, they are all great.
