Screws under nose - hurt when I laugh!

#1 Post by redfoxjo »

I had upper and lower jaw surgery with a palate expansion just over 3 months ago now. The swelling has almost gone and things are looking pretty normal now. I'm still on soft foods. I can't chew much still nor bite. I did however bite into a couple of mini donuts last night but it didn't hurt. My surgeon says I can chew and bite but just to be careful for the first four months as everything in my top palate will still be loose.

Today I've noticed a sharp pain under my right nostril when I laugh. I feel the area and can distinctively feel a little hard lump which I presume to be one of the screws. I've now got myself all worked up worrying that by biting the mini donuts I've dislodged a screw. Not sure how possible this is?

My canines feel loose all of the time and if I itch my nose I sometimes feel tenderness and pain from the area where my screws are.

I recently had my lower right plate out due to infection and what turned out to be a loose bone fragment causing problems!

I just wonder if anyone else has had issues with their top jaw screws and lid the sensations I'm experiencing are fairly normal for the procedure I've had?

Thanks all.
