That first week is such a shock! Really, I don't think anything can truly prepare you for it. If it makes you feel better, I've had mine just over two months and am pretty used to them. Every once in a while they annoy me, but nothing like that first week! So hang in there - you'll probably start seeing movement pretty quickly which makes it all worthwhile!

I thought I was getting used to it but i'm not quite there yet. Counting the days down. Can't wait until i'm counting months down & not days. This is going to be a long old journey lol.

I'm still wearing wax on the front of my mouth as I had some nasty sores start to appear & cleaning my teeth was awkward, soon as I took that wax off it was rubbing them. So painful. Looks like they are going now so going to try & go 2moz without any wax. The wax is making my mouth stick out even further & makes me feel horrid. Hate it.

I didn't have any problem with the sides of my cheeks but now they are ripped to shreds & making my jaw ache that or the wax is weighing my jaw down.

I'm struggling to eat still too, glad it's not just me. I've managed to eat normal foods but there are some things that hurt too much. I'm not really chewing just swallowing things hole but i'm worried I might choke :? I hope this pain doesn't last the entire time I have braces

No, dont worry it wont last too much longer, i still cant chew but its a lot better i just cooked a burger for my little boy and tried a piece and could just about chew it - without it being too painful.

The sensitivity of my teeth is really bad though, i have been out and bought some Senitive toothpaste but dont know if that'll help much.

Well i'm having my linguals fitted tomorrow.

Before I started my journey it was these that I was excited about as I knew people wouldn't know I had a brace fitted & was worried about the bottom 1 as it's visible.

Oh how that has changed. I've read so many bad things about lingual braces since deciding on them (mainly speech) that I am so worried now.

It also means it's going to be extraction time again soon  I really didn't enjoy the last lot of extractions. I've had so many teeth out this past year, including my wisdom teeth  guess I should be used to it now, second nature & all that pffffftt yeah

Onwards & upwards ay. Means I will be on my way well & truely once I've got them on & had my top extractions!!!! i'll be counting the days down until I get them off then lol

Well I had my top lingual brace (incognito) fitted earlier!

It's much bigger on my front teeth than I expected. I think he called it 'padding'.

The whole process wasn't too bad & didn't take that long really. Think 30 mins.

I struggled to talk after they put it on & sounded awful.

It's been a few hours now & I think i'm sounding much better. I recorded myself on my phone talking & I couldn't hear a lisp. Although when I asked my dad he said he could hear a slight lisp :? I can't hear it when I talk now but it seems to be coming & going at the moment. Nothing like when they first put it on I sounded like sylvester the cat off looney tunes "I tawt I taw a Tweety Bird!"

My tongue is so sore but i'd rather that than a lisp.

Hope I get on ok at work tomorrow & nobody notices it & no customers do. I'm constantly on the phones.

I'm all booked in for my last & final lot (I hope) of extractions. Both upper 1st pre molars 13th Dec & then my wire will be fitted on my lingual brace on the 23rd but until then it's just brackets.

OVER & OUT FOR NOW!!!!

Just thought i'd update.

It's been 3 weeks today since i've had my lower brace on & I can now SEE that 1 of my teeth has moved. Only slightly but it's still something. Other people probs wouldn't notice.

I have 2 rotated twisted canines on my lowers & his trying to rotate both of them & so far my right 1 has started to move over as I now have a very small gap starting to show where my tooth leaned over onto my other tooth before :D

My left 1 doesn't look like it's moved though or at least not to the extent of the other 1.

I'm so chuffed didn't expect to see anything so soon. I'm hoping they'll be where he wants them on 23rd Dec when I get my wire on my upper lingual attached so we can crack on a bit more woooo!!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Had my lingual upper brace fitted for a week now & my speech has defo improved from when I first had it put on but it keeps coming & going.

Seems people can understand me but I don't sound right. I'm not sure i'd call it a lisp but I don't think it'll go. I know it's been only a week but it's not a lisp as such. I just sound weird & it's such an effort to try sound right & my mouth is only small.

I'm finding i'm struggling mid convo too & struggling to get words out & have problems pronouncing things correctly.

Sometimes I sound like my normal old self but very rarely & only in very short sentences. I'm hoping it'll improve more still. If I improved another 20% I think i'd be happy as i'd probs sounds more or less normal.

Over & out

UPDATE REGARDING SPEECH WITH UPPER LINGUAL!!!!!!

Thought i'd update for all the newbies worrying about speech as you see alot of negative posts on here about people struggling with it & I know it scared me to death & gave me serious doubts. Also I was 1 of those posters worrying lol

I've had it on now for 12 days & my speech is fine 98% of the time. It might slip but not a struggle like it was before.

I had a lisp for the first couple of days but then my lisp went & I just sounded like I had a brace if that makes sense. Didn't sound like me & didn't think i'd ever get rid of it I just sounded different.

BUT I sound like the old me now & you wouldn't know.

I forgot it was there over the weekend & it feels comfortable now.

Not got my wire fitted yet but hoping when I do this doesn't affect my speech.

So to all the newbies speech is a problem at first but get reading out loud like I did. That made a big differene for me & after the first week it was fine

I'm so relieved. I got a call yersterday from my ortho. I was due to have my wire fitted on my lingual brace on the 23rd Dec & might be having my first adjustment on my lowers if they've moved to where he wants them. I was worried I might find it too painful to eat again like I did with the lowers when they were fitted & miss out on my Xmas dinner & all the rest of the feast over Xmas. Well they've had a cancellation & i'm now being seen on 21st Dec, so hopefully any discomfort will have eased by Xmas day (took about 3 days last time).

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wow just saw my ticker. I didn't even realise it was my first month anniversary!!! Only on my lowers mind but still feels great.

I kept watching my ticker before & longing for it to be counting months rather than days.

That time has flown by. Can't believe it. Hope the next 18-24months fly just as fast (although i'll be getting older so not so sure on that actually lol)

Well today's the day I have my last lot of extractions.

Having my 2 upper first premolars out later on today!
I remember the first time & i'm really not looking forward to it.

At least when it's over with thats it (or at least I hope it is) not a pleasant experience at all.

One positive from it though a nice short day at work WAHOOO!!!

Ok so I've had my teeth out & I'm mortified!!!!!

1 of my teeth broke & there's a bit of root left inside my gum that he can't get out.

His taken a photo & is going to send it to my ortho to see if it's going to get in the way or if it can be left in there. If it needs to come out then I'm going to have to have my gum cut open to get it out.

I didn't think they could leave any of the root in????????

I asked the question & he said anything under 3mm is fine to leave in.

I'm so worried ....... What if its left in & later on when my teeth are beautifully straight it causes problems & needs to come out. Means I'll have to loose another healthy tooth just to get to it & I can't afford to loose anymore teeth. Plus it means I'll have spent all this money for nothing.
