How long for extraction gaps to close?

#1 Post by pa1n »

I had 2 molars extracted recently, one on each side at the bottom. Just wondering how long it takes these gaps to close? I have trouble eating since i have no molars to chew with and my i've got a severe underbite which renders my front set of teeth useless.

any advice is appreciated, thanks.

My brother said it won't take long. Around 2-3 months.

I am actually getting 2 molars (one on each side next to canine; top) extracted sometimes next week. Did you get general or local anaesthesia? Did it hurt?

I think it varies for each person. I had just one upper premolar extraction done on 5/1/10 and I'm still waiting for that gap to close. I actually went from one large gap to 2 smaller ones, as the canine moved over to fill in the hole. You can see them on page 15 of my story. Extraction gaps are far different from the little spaces you get as your teeth move.

Sorry to disappoint you... We just need to be patient. This is a long process.

thanks for the responses.

to answer your question, i received local anaestetic. To me it wasnt that bad, you will only feel pressure during the extraction, no pain. However, it may sting when the anaestetic is being injected.

I extracted an incisor and that closed in 2 - 3mths time. However, I had a space where I had a molar removed before treatment and that space has not closed in just yet or even close to. I have my braces in about 6 mths or so. I guess it varies in terms of treatment.

I had a lateral incisor (the one beside your two front teeth) pulled late july and by the end of october is was completely gone, so 3 months.
I also had two first premolars exacted, he did not use such agressive force to close these, they took about 6-8 months.
