doing the dentist/orthos job for them!

#1 Post by sammywantstraightteeth »

I noticed yesterday that my latest set of aligners (set 14) had a space for an attachment on a tooth that I've never had an attachment on. I looked back through previous sets to discover that 13 had it too, but 12 didn't. A look at my clincheck confirmed that between sets 12 and 13 an extra attachment appears!

Emailed my dentist and he replied to say yes, come in as soon as possible and have that attachment fitted.

I am all for being proactive in my own treatment but this kind of seems like the sort of thing he should be on top of. Has anyone else had to remind their dentist/ortho that something needs doing on schedule? Just curious!

Wow! Really your dentist forgot an attachment!!? This could have compromised the movement of your tooth!

I had attachments fitted during my treatment and even changed their shape sometimes. How often do you go to your dentist/ortho? I go at least once a month, so I guess it's easier to remember something like that.

Don't you look closely to your mouth? Didn't fit properly your aligner?

The aligner fit fine - obviously with a small empty space where the attachment should be but it was difficult to see when I had them on that there wasn't an attachment on my tooth under there.

I last saw him at the end of november, when it would have been too early to put the attachment on (because the next 2 or 3 aligners did not have the attachment space in them).

It is about 2 and a half weeks late by my reckoning. If that particular tooth doesn't move down enough then I'll know why.

Oh well, off to see my forgetful dentist to put this right!

sometimes i feel that way too. like lately my aligners have not been fitting and at my first appointment, my ortho was like 'No they are fitting fine" but i knew they weren't. there were gaps in a few places. Today, i went in and the dental hygenist said "all looks good" and I said," isn't there spaces right here? it doesn't seem to be tracking well." And she looks at it again & agreed with me! maybe that's just small little stuff, but i hate pointing out the obvious to them. i'm not the professional, they are.

That happened to me too! When I received my refinement set, I noticed the extra attachment space when I got home and further examined them. I called and pretty much got the same response, "come in when you can and we will put it on" What if I hadn't seen it??

I feel if you aren't on top of it, they won't be, so make sure to pay extra attention to what your teeth are doing. They can help, but you are the only one who can truly know what's going on in your mouth. (and for all that money, I find that absurd)

I also had this happen at my last ortho appointment. The technician handed me several more sets of trays and said all was well. No mention was made of placing the additional attachment I was due to get with the next tray. I brought this to her attention and she reviewed my file to find that I was right!! I understand these professionals are human as well, and as such they occasionally make oversights. I agree it is frustrating to have to feel like you need to "babysit" your treatment.
