Extractions of 3 baby teeth and 1 adult tooth

#1 Post by christa »

I am getting my lower second primary molars, upper left second primary molar (these are the baby teeth) and my adult right first premolar extracted next week. Would I be alright with just novocaine? Or should I opt for nitrous oxide? I am so nervous thinking about it. When I had my wisdom teeth taken out 7 years ago, I was put to sleep. But my pulse was so high they had to wait for me to calm down before they started the IV drip. So I am definitely not opting to be put to sleep this time. Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks :)

I had a baby canine pulled last year, and it slipped right out. They barely had to give me any shots, cause the tooth had like no root. I don't even know how it held on for so long. If you have a lot of anxiety the gas will help with that. I kinda like that the gas keeps me from freaking out about getting the shots. When i had my wisdoms pulled the worst part was those shots.
Do you know how the roots look on those baby teeth? My dentist never told me mine didn't have a root, although i'm sure he saw that on the X-Ray.

I've had dental work done under nitrous oxide, and the only effect it had on me was making everyone around me sound like they were in a tunnel (like they were speaking with kind of an echo). You're still fully conscious and aware of what's going on, and I could still feel pain (i.e. the novocain shots, which you'll likely still need even with the laughing gas). For me, the extra cost wasn't worth it, but you might have a different experience.

I had a large adult molar extracted with novocain only. My periodontist actually had to saw it into fourths to remove it. FWIW, the worst part of the process was keeping my mouth open for so long. Other than that, it was fine, and I'm a big baby about pain. I would think getting a couple of baby teeth and a premolar pulled would be a pretty easy and quick procedure.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Lidocaine with some nitrous should do the trick if you are nervous about it.

Thank you all for your replies. I will let you know how it goes next Thursday. Ashesgap- on my X-ray I couldn't see any roots under my baby teeth. So I am guessing they are very short.

I had two baby teeth extracted and two impacted canines exposed yesterday morning and my doctor prescribed me a valium to take one hour before the procedure. It was magic. I was completely aware of everything that was going on but just enough in la la land not to care. Good luck with your procedure!!

I'm home! I took an Ativan before I left and just got a local anesthetic and I was fine. The doctor explained to me everything he was doing throughout the whole procedure which I liked. The Novocaine is slowly wearing off now. I took 2 Advil as soon as I got home. But I feel the discomfort already through the gauze I have in my mouth. And my tongue itches, lol. When does the bleeding stop?

For me bleeding stopped after about 1-2h, but i think the ice packs will help the bleeding to stop faster.

One of my stitches came out today, after only 5 days after I had my extractions. Is this normal for it to have fallen out so soon? The extraction site the stitch came out of isn't bleeding or anything, it's just a little swollen.

I'm don't remember even having stitches for my extractions. I thought they just pulled them and let them heal on their own. I suspect, though, that your stitches are dissolving ones that break down on their own and that this is just the right time for it to happen.
