Most of the times, the results don't last because people stop using their removable retainers, or their fixed retainers were not perfectly attached or got 'unglued' and never came back to the dentist to fix it.

Very well stated.

And that's why I am told I will be getting a lingual retainer on the botttom when the braces come off.

Exactly. That is exactly what the orthodontist told me he was going to do to the tops and bottoms after mine come off. I seriously hope I can get a removable retainer too for extra insurance. After all this money I am spending I want a bit of insurance even though I know my teeth may slightly move after.

I was really naive with this. I had no idea that teeth were able to move throughout ones lifetime. This came as a surprise when I went to have a crown down a year ago and was told if the temporary crown comes off to replace it right away. If I didn't my new permanent crown would not fit because my teeth would move. I was like huh? I am a grown adult who has stopped growing. Why on earth would my teeth be moving now lol. The dentist smiled at me and promptly started to explain.

SNAP!!

I really hope I can get a removable retainer too. I'm not so convinced by a fixed 1 now. If needs be I'll go see someone else after treatment & pay them to make me 1 if I can. Hoping my ortho will do it though I really want both.
